Rights regarding being nude at home

I've gone to the trouble of registering to get other women's opinions regarding my habit of being nude in my home. I'm an attractive (I've been told) housewife and mother. My husband works outside our home, and I spend my days going around the house (and sometimes on our back deck) in the nude. Obviously we are nudists (naturists), and I love the freedom of being nude all the time. Sometimes the doorbell rings (UPS or whatever), and I've been tempted to answer the door nude. It's agrivating to have to scamper to grab something to put on. I'm proud of my body, and I hate being ashamed. Can I get in trouble answering the door nude? Please don't be rude to me, as I truly feel unashamed. Thanks.

I think that its illegal for someone to see u nude from your doorway in most places but these ups/postal/pizza people see people answer the door nude all the time so I wouldnt worry about it. Ive never heard of someone get arrested for answering the door nude.

I would be concerned about the safety aspect of doing so. You never know who might come back for an unwanted visit in this day and age.

Hi, I'm a naturist and proud of it. With my annual membership to TNS I recieved a window decal that states I am a proud member of the naturist society. I placed this decal on my front window just beside my door. If someone comes to my door and knocks, I will answer it as I am. If it is a child I will ask them to give me a second and I will slip on some shorts. Most adults can read. But then again I would be wary of some pervert attempting to come back at a later time for other purposes.

I suspect that in most jurisdictions it is legal as long as your nudity is not visible from the street or from a section of your property that could be considered a common area (such as the sidewalk). If your visitors can only see your nudity while they are on your private property, I would think you are perfectly legal -in most areas. Trespassers do not have the right to control your behavior.

However... if the visitors are children, all bets are off, even if they are trespassing.

I've posted before that I answer the door nude quite frequently, but usually I stand behind the door so's that it's obvious that I'm naked, but hiding the "legality" til I know who's there. If it's someone I don't know then I'll tell them to hold on while I slip on some shorts, or invite them in if they're comfortable with my state of undress. I also have decals on my front door from AANR, but I don't know if most people know what they are...

I would like to echo "Be careful". You never know what someone is thinking or will do. Many years ago my sister was attacked by some a**hole [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif[/img] who had seen her sunbathing in her back yard that day. She wasn't nude, but had on a bikini.

She fought him and he finally took off when my nephew, who was about 3 or 4 years old at the time, bit the SOB on the A**! [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif[/img] I was really proud of that kid! [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif[/img]

I sure hope it was worth it to the Bast*rd, during the fight, my sister managed to gouge his eyes! When they took scrapings from under her nails they found eyeball tissue! [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif[/img] [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif[/img] Too bad there was no DNA testing at the time. [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif[/img]

Now for some tips...why not have a little robe or housecoat near the door. At least you could cover up and not be arrested for your nudity.

Here is my imput...I do not scramble to put on clothes when someone rings my doorbell. I answer the door nude, but I hide my body behind the door so I don't expose myself. I have yet to have anybody freak-out or ask me to dress. I have bottled water delivered to my home and the delivery man has told me several times that he would happy to bring the bottles in, but I always thank him and politely decline. I am not out to expose myself, but to enjoy my life nude.

When we bought this house, it had a hinged, security meshed, head-high, [I don't know what to call it, but you know what I mean], in the front door. [Like Hernando's Hideaway.]
So, if anyone rings the bell, I can check them out, and talk to them, without opening the door.
Congratulations on being comfortable with nudity, and proud of your body, but personal safety has to be a top priority.

Yeah thats what I meant about the law, I just meant it was illegal if visible from the street or sidewalk, of course in my opinion something isnt REALLY illegal until someone calls the cops so until someone does that its fair game. [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif[/img] Besides if im not doing anything bad while nude I shouldnt have to worry about it and I dont worry about perverts anyways its not like I cant defend myself or anything.

Like a couple of others above, I answer the door nude but hide behind it. However, there is a full-length mirror on the closet door just inside the front door, so anyone who looks down will see that I am naked. (By the way, I didn't put the mirror there.)

Before I open the door wider, or let anyone in, I say: "I am a nudist -- do you mind?. Then I govern myself accordingly.

Daytime visitors are most often delivery people, meter readers or service people, and they don't mind.

I was told by a female police officer that they regularly encounter nude males when they go to a house looking for someone, e.g. to serve a summons. The nude person might look out a front window to see who's knocking, or might answer the door. She said that they ignore the nudity.

Nakedlady: It's great that you feel truly unashamed about your body. In our double standard society, it would be very unusual for anyone to complain about a naked woman. However, keep in mind the personal safety issue.

Dear Lady

It appears you have only one reply from the gender you were seeking. From what I read the advise is sound. Being a father of three grown daughters and five grandchildern, I would remind you to think of your's as well as your child/childern's safty/security. Once this has been addressed then I believe it is your right to respond to the door as YOU see fit.

I would also suggest you research the state statues and or local ordeances reguarding privacie and nudity.

I tend to agree with the majority in that it is okay to answer the door nude, if you hide behind it. Exposing yourself to the general public 'could' have some negativity, but hiding behind the door would be okay. If the persons were kids, then I would cover up, just to CYA, but on the other hand, if they were unwanted i.e., Jehovas Witnesses, salespeople, politicians 'elections', then I would not worry about covering up. Luckily, I have a peep hole and a window by my front door, so I can see who is there, before I open it.
