  • Principal suspended over nude photo on Web

See, Canadians (and I'm not talking about the Principal here) can be stupid too...

"Principal suspended over nude photo on Web":
    Canadian Press

VANCOUVER -- A school principal in the resort town of Harrison Hot Springs suspended after a nude photo of him was found on his family website is being asked to turn over his personal computer for inspection.
    ...
He said Mr. Classen will not be allowed back into the school "until we are satisfied there is nothing else there that we should be afraid of."

Officials are demanding the computer even though Mr. Sinclair concedes the photo appears innocent and there's no evidence Mr. Classen is any danger to children.
    ...
"I think at this point what we have is a stupid, stupid mistake by the guy," he said. "But other than that there's nothing criminal, no indication that children are at risk with this man."

The indistinct photo is 15 years old, apparently taken when Mr. Classen and his wife visited a nude beach in Australia, said Elan Nootebos, president of Harrison's parent advisory council, who has seen the picture.

I hope this will turn out to be an opportunity to show that going to a nude beach does not mean one is a child molester.

To me, this is exactly the sort of case that should result in the end to discrimination against naturists.

The fact that anything is even being said about this is stupid. Going to a nude beach should be a non issue.

That school district is wide open for a law suit with this type of demand, and will loose.

Police or law enforcement high tech computer specialist; YES

School district; under no circumstance. Why would anyone submit all of their personal, financial, medical, tax, investment, and hobbies, and photographic records to a school district or any employer with out legal or court demand?

What’s wrong with a 15 year old nude vacation picture in another country where the face is not even showing?

Another case of Nude = Sex by some who are into others business more than their own.

Harrison Hot Springs (population: 1,343) is located in the Fraser Valley at the south end of 60-km (37-mi) long Harrison Lake, a two-hour drive east from Vancouver.

Link to Harrison Hot Springs information.

Sounds to me as if the whole population of this sleepy community could fit on one small beach in the area. Too bad someone who has nothing else better to do than to stir the pot on their own community. The problem with tiny communities is that if you’re not in with them they can make life miserable, so they usually get there way in ridicules cases such as this, or find some other ways or faults to get you out if you don't go along with them.

wow, this one is so stupid I'm speechless. It was a 15-year-old picture on his fmaily website? Geez! His only crime was living in a tiny town where the cops have nothing better to do. Rediculous!

This person was born nude. Is that a crime too? It was obvious he was not doing anything sexual or anything that is socially objectionable other than enjoying surf and sun while in a foreign land. His actions were totally innocent.

So do we have to remove Noah from the bible because his sons found him nude, passed out drunk beside his ark before they 'knew' him ???

Perhaps this is a lesson in why sometimes a person might not want their nude picture posted online. Not everyone is as understanding as we are here.

I wonder if they had other things of concern. This one seems to be pretty lame and tame. No doubt his computer will come up clean and he will be back to work soon.

I absolutely agree with NakedGary's statement:

There is no evidence whatsoever that the Principal is a danger to children. If those who are persecuting the Principal think a vague picture at a nude beach is sufficent to warrant the witch-hunt, are not these same people likely to regard more detailed photos of him or others at a nude beach as simply more evidence?

Frankly, I want to see a strong rebuttal by the naturist community and the general citizenry against the persecutors.

My thoughts are that a community that would behave like this does not deserve to have any teachers. This level of intrusion into a person's private life should never be tolerated.

The only thing that should be the business of the school board is if he has been convicted of something illegal.

I have to admit to being a little torn on this one. First off, it does appear to be no big deal and he should be back at work, however, on the other side, I can understand some would be over-protective of the children... If all is innocent then the principal should be back to work. Is it unfair?? ... sure it is, but again, is anyone really surprised at the response in today's society? Hopefully, this will turn out to be a lesson, albeit probably very minor in the overall scheme of things.

So-cons attack the teaching profession again, this time in Indiana:

This is simple grandstanding for the press. They want to make it look like they are the super-protectors of children. The district chairman even admitted so at the end of the article: "We would probably have handled this very, very quietly and differently had it not been sent to the press," Mr. Sinclair said.

The press are simply wrong to make this into an issue at all. I wonder how some of the editors and reporters would like to have their personal freedoms and livelihood curtailed when they haven't done anything wrong?

It reads to me that a parent intently made the issue by complaining to the school board, and sending the picture to the press & mention of possible child molestation for an article.

The press love sensational titles with anything “Sex” or “Nude as you see in this topic/thread/title, or on local market check out stands here, as in the “Philidelphia Inquirer”, “Globe”, or similar Canadian publications.

I think it’s irresponsible and sometimes damaging for an individual or commercial enterprise such as the press to purposely lump, confuse, or equate “Nude=Sex” when referring to non-sexual nudist or naturist images.

Talking about making an ant hill into a mountain!! Sheesh! And the media is definitely playing it for all it's worth. Or rather what they think it is worth.
