Driving nude

A youtube lawyer posted a 'things you can't believe are legal' sort of video and in it he said that is is perfectly legal to drive nude. You only have to be clothed when you leave the car. I'm skeptical since the windows give the public an open view of the car like it does a yard. Thoughts?

Note: If I'm alone, driving nude has been my MO for a bit over five years if the destination isn't a quick errand or within five miles. I've driven past police cars countless times, and have been at a light next to them just as often. Not sure if they've ever spotted me, but it's not like they can see through the car and know for sure.

I even pull my plane out the hangar, prep it, preflight, and fly out nude too. I bring clothes and shoes in a backpack. Seldom do people drive past at the hangar and if they do, they seem to laugh it off.

I don't know about this "YouTube lawyer" == but in most places, it's illegal to be SEEN in the nude. In other words, you may be driving and no one can see you in the car, but don't try driving through a drive-through window with your pants off.

People have gotten in trouble with the law if they can be seen on public streets or sidewalks while naked in their house. The car is no different. The higher you are above the road, the more feasible it would be to drive naked. If you have a smaller compact car, truckers and people on buses can easily see in to your car. If you are driving a semi, you are probably safe.

I have driven nude many times, but I have tinted windows, which makes it hard to see inside. That said, I have pushed the envelope and drove nude in vehicles that did not have tinted windows. I stayed clear of other traffic when I did that, which was on an open freeway, so traffic was moving pretty fast.

The thought never crossed my mind to go through a drive-through nude. That's asking for it.

In the U.S. it is impossible to make a blanket statement as to the legality of driving nude since public nudity laws are made locally and can very greatly from city to city or county to county.
All I can comment on is my own experience with driving nude primarily in Los Angeles and neighboring counties over the last 50 years.

In that time I have gone from being very cautious and covering up if there was any possibility of someone seeing me to not caring if I am seen. The reasons I drive nude are it is more comfortable and I am more relaxed, which driving in L.A. is not always easy to do.

If you are worried or are uncomfortable about being seen driving nude or live in an area of the country with extreme anti-nudity laws, do not drive nude. It does not matter how careful you are about covering up, eventually you will be seen nude.
That said, most drivers and even passengers in the other cars and trucks rarely look around so the odds of being seen are small.
I have lost count how many times I have been seen, but I can tell you there has only been three incidents were people reacted negatively. Most will either simply nod or give you a smile or laugh and some will give you a thumbs up.

As for going through the take out lane at a fast food place, I do that all the time. Even in a small car, most drive through windows are low enough and far enough back that they cannot be sure you are nude. If it looks like I can be seen I will drape my shorts over my lap while at the window. I admit I have had some strange looks when the temperature is in the low 50's and even a couple of coments about not having a shirt on but I just say I am more comfortable this way and leave it at that.


For me, my comfort level for driving nude increased dramatically after I did my first World Naked Bike Ride and saw first hand that the majority of people do not have a problem with seeing people nude doing normal activities.

All I can say it is a whole lot more comfortable, especially with fake (real) leather seats, heated for cooler winter temperatures.

I’ve often considered doing this but never did. We live in a rather conservative community and the locals don’t (publicly at least) look kindly to any nudity. There are a great many of us nudists here but most are very much hidden about it.

I have driven nude 2 times but not for long periods just when leaving the beach i my be nude for a bit but really need to get dressed when getting on to public roads,
