  • Job Rewards

Most everyone works. We all get paid for our work but whether you do or do not like your job there is something you get as a reward other than the pay.

Share with all us what your 'reward' is that is not your paycheck.

As a packaging engineer I redesigned packaging process equipment to work better than those who engineered, designed, and built it. As a pilot I loved to be off in the unknown, especially at night, where the stars and lights of the houses below melded to one giving me an sense of being in another space void of any planet. As a computer tech I get great satisfaction out of building a system or repairing a software problem I never had or saw before.

From my two jobs I get great satisfaction in the follwing ways.

As an adjunct professor in the business school, I receive great rewards from the sharing of knowledge with the students. I freely give of my own experience to illustrate the points made in the textbook. I get a thrill when I see the going off with the students.

As a performance improvement consultant, there are many rewards that come to me when the client begins seeing tangible benefit for the work being done. It may be increased profits, better patient outcomes, and or higher employee satisfaction scores. Any combination shows the work we are doing together is beneficial.

What really rewards me though is the fact everyday offers a new challenge and I get to grow with each interaction I have with my fellow inhabitants of this great planet.

Nothing beats the love of a child. Their hugs, the excitement in their voice when they call out my name, the smiles on their faces.

As I tell them, I love every child there. I may not like how they behave, but I still love them, nonetheless.

Every year, the food service company I work for (Sodexho) throws a banquet the Friday before Spring Break. During this banquet, there are items up for display up at the front of the room. About an hour into the meal, the head of the operations begins auctioning the items off with fake money we earn throughout the year (called Safety Bucks).

This works as an incentive to stay safe and is a nice event to relax at. I won't go into any detail, but the more time there are between accidents, the more Safety Bucks we get. If we have perfect attendance, we all get a bonus. Also, if we have an accident-free year, the food service budgets more into the auction items. In Spring '05, the best item was a cooler (which I won) because there were so many accidents. This year, it was a George Foreman grill I won. The year before last ('04), our best was a toaster.

Hopefully next year we'll have a TV.

The company I work for is a small electrical company, 4 guys in the field. We do Home Depot's and other large jobs. The company allows unlimited overtime, and you can comp some of this time.

When I work it's 75 to 90 hours a week....for upto 6 months, But every week I work I "comp" a week off paid. So when the job is done I take off upto 6 months....paid. I get a check every Friday.

I take deep satisfaction in being an Electrician, I truly love my job.

Plus with working all those hours you'd think chances of being nude would be rare....not.

Once all the other trades leave and I'm up in my lift.....nude. 35' in the air. LOL

I like meeting new people at the places I work or have worked. I had more freinds in four years when I worked then when I was in high school.
