  • What I believe....

    Was thinking about this topic over the weekend.
    Here's a start to a few things I believe. I believe...

    1)....that the way to God is to believe in and accept Jesus Christ as the Bible outlines.

    2)....that the media is the most dangerous force shaping our society.

    3)....that being a nudist is good for the mind, body, and soul (plus it's a great way to make new friends).

    How about you? What do you believe?

      I agree with your No.3. but I am not sure about No.2. It is absolutly VITAL that the press is allowed TOTAL FREEDOM to report. Perhaps the press does shape our society but we must remember that the press can be manipulated, not only by polititions, major capitalists but ALSO by the people - thats you and me.

      We can all write to newspapers, start lobby groups, create protest marches etc and create our own news that we want reported.

      In a democratic FREE society the people make the news. There are too many apathetic people in this world. People need to VOTE, write letters to the press, protest, comment, etc etc.

        As to religion I beleive differently. i beleive God is here and in all things live or nonliving. The bible is a very good book but is far from accurate where it was translated thru no fewer than 11 different languages, not put to text until long after Christ died and there are several versions to every story in the bible. That book has great advice and good ways to follow but is not the whole truth, actually is far from it. Think of the story of Adam and Eve. If Adam and Eve were the first two humans, and they brought Cain and Able to this earth, Just who did Cain and Able marry? Where did these two people come from? And that list goes on and on and on.

        I feel marketing is the worst and most dangerous "force" or aspect of today's life. When you think of it, marketig takes advantage of rich and poor alike attempting to remove any profit one may have in trade for some object one really does not neet. We have about 100 years of oil left, due to marketing we have wasted so much of that resource that could have lasted centurys longer had we been judicial. But that does not accomodate marketing, to use an example.

        Being a nudist is one way to keep in touch with yourself and God. You have nothing to hide and your body gets to feel all the nature God has created about you.

          Make that TOTAL FREEDOM to REPORT and you'll get more support. Unfortunately, that's too often not what they do.

            Yeah, really. What's that slogan of the New York Times... "All The News That's Fit To Slant"?

              Yep, #3 is correct!

              As to #2 OZJames has it right the press needs to be free to report unfortunately we have FOX the propaganda arm of the starboard ala spewing lies and the rest of the US media too timid to report the truth unvarnished.
              Non US media sources are the only way to find out what is really going on in the world today.

              #1 is wrong.

                #1. No. I believe that there are many paths to God....Jesus being one of them.

                #2. Quite possibly. Though if not dangerous, it is one of the most powerful forces shaping our society. We can decide how much media we want to consume, and when we want to consume it.

                #3.Yep.

                  On religion i agree with rabid Clam, I believe in God but while the bible gives some good advice it's not the whole truth. As for been a nudist i agree with carolina nude, but also belive been a nudist is very misunderstood. Alot of people i tell about my nudism always think it is a sexual thing, and don't believe me when i tell'em it isn't like that! Unfortunately its something you can't fully understand until you try it, and then you realize that its true. Naturism has nothing to do with sex.

                    I believe strongly in this covenent;

                    We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote

                  • The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
                  • Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
                  • Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
                  • A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
                  • The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
                  • The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
                  • Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
                  • The living tradition which we share draws from many sources:

                  • Direct experience of that transcending mystery and wonder, affirmed in all cultures, which moves us to a renewal of the spirit and an openness to the forces which create and uphold life;
                  • Words and deeds of prophetic women and men which challenge us to confront powers and structures of evil with justice, compassion, and the transforming power of love;
                  • Wisdom from the world's religions which inspires us in our ethical and spiritual life;
                    Jewish and Christian teachings which call us to respond to God's love by loving our neighbors as ourselves;
                  • Humanist teachings which counsel us to heed the guidance of reason and the results of science, and warn us against idolatries of the mind and spirit.
                  • Spiritual teachings of earth-centered traditions which celebrate the sacred circle of life and instruct us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature.
                  • Grateful for the religious pluralism which enriches and ennobles our faith, we are inspired to deepen our understanding and expand our vision. As free congregations we enter into this covenant, promising to one another our mutual trust and support.

                    P.S. This is strictly a voluntary covenant and is not required, and is not to be used as doctrine nor dogma.

                    Hi David,

                    Thanks for posting that. I really agree with what you wrote.

                    I belong to the United Church of Canada. It was formed in 1925 by a union of Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregationalist and has some values/practices of each denomination. The main tenet that I love about UCC is the belief that we all have our individual journeys of faith and that we can do it in a community of believers. No one will tell you what to believe. The church also has a strong sense of social justice with I value too.

                      I agree with one and three. The most damaging force in America today is conservativism. The corruption and incompetence of the right is very harmful to the nation and the world.

                        I beleive the most damaging force in the USA today is marketing. They market products that are built such they injure and kill children, food that makes us fat and gives many terrible diseases of major organs, products that suck up the finite resources the earth can yield, and all this in search of the all mibhty buck.

                        If Jesus were to hit the money changers today, I beleive he would wipe out the marketing people.

                        Look around you and tell me how many ads you see just where you sit! The TV and radio is full of them, newspapers and magazines are full of them, road sides are full of them, buildings are plastered with them, and just about anything you touch has one or more ads on it.

                        Is nice to go to a beach in the wilderness to be rid of the ads if just for a short time.

                            1. I thing Rabid_Clam put it pretty good.

                            2. I would have to say greet is a stronger force in society. The media is driven by ratings and money after all.

                            3. Absolutely!
