  • showering and using the bathroom

When I was a kid my dad took the locks off the doors due to kids getting locked in .The release was on the side not in the middle. One family tried the no lock method but their only daughter stuck a towel partly under the door to take a bath the handle came off the tubs hot handle and flooded 25%of the house after that there was no door.As a teen(13) in a new house I never locked the door I always left it open it was a bathroom/laundry.It was at the other end of house and was next to my bedroom. It had a toilet, tub/shower with a showercurtain, sink & pulldown ironingboard.(year 1969) Many a nite it was grandcentral station,3 older sisters going on dates. One had clothes washing or drying,or needed to iron a blouse,or a skirt,,...Or worse sister&their girlfriend, opening the curtain asking me how do they look??,,fine!I'd say how do I look? sis:wet, her friend naked&wet. Now as an adult the door is still open, everyone knows I am a nudist and have friends that are nudists/some not..They know if they come by what to expect, myself always naked my wife not.Two couples are nudists, three guys and two girls, are not nudists.I've known all of them for six years and they all close the door, including my wife.

        Naked.nudenow,

I always leave the bathroom door open wheither I am using the toilet or taking a shower. I don't like the steam from the shower covering the mirror so I can't see. Also, with the humidity down in the bathroom, it is easier to dry off, thus preventing any bacterial organizims growing. Living alone, I see no reason to close the door when using the toilet.

I usually leave the bathroom door ajar, but not for the reasons you would think.

We have a cat that is very pesty. She will scratch at the door until you let her in. So, I leave the door ajar so she can just open it herself. When I'm barefoot, she will rub her head all over my foot - very distracting when tinkling. I don't let her in at all when I'm doing the other business.

The other funny thing is this cat will come into the shower. She sits there in the shower with her mouth open to try to catch water. Or, she drinks at streams of water running off of your body. Needless to say, she gets rather wet on occassion.

She also comes up on the counter and we turn on the cold water tap for her. She drinks right from the stream.

          Nutty cat!

I have made a rule in our house that the bathroom door is never locked! This is for the kids as well as the adults. I had an aquaintance that had a family member slip in the shower, and the door was locked. By the time they opened the door the person had bled a great deal. Luckily the person didn't die, but I wouldn't want something similar to happen to my family.

I also have a rule that you should knock before entering a bathroom. We also tend to leave the door open when noone is in the bathroom, so if the door is closed it means someone is in the room, and you should wait to use it.

I tend to leave the door open all the time as I have nothing to hide. I prefer noone to enter when I am doing #2, but other than that I don't have a problem. We leave it up to the kids whether they leave the door open or not. When they were little they never bothered to close the door, now that they are in their teens, they have a bit more shyness and most of the time will close the door. When they were little, it did cause us a problem in that they didn't close the door when they went over to their friend's houses which freaked out a couple of parents. We had to teach them: "our house our rules, their house their rules." Also we had a long disucssion of what most people's rules were, and they had a difficult idea of understanding why people would behave that way.

Doors are open when home alone, otherwise when others are here downstairs door will be closed, upstairs depends on the mood. When showering I now close the door as I get up an hour earlier than wife and daughter to get to work on time. Days off its usually open. Doors are never locked...I agree with tomkojohn, someone gets hurt that locked door could have serious ramifications.

I always leave the door open when using the toilet. When married we closed the door as a courtesy to others, not for modesty. None of the doors had locks on them. If the door was closed anyone knew the room was being used for personal reasons and privacy was respected.

We had a one bathroom house. So at bath time the door would be opeen so that our parents could look in on us. It was also the only time when we were aloud to be nude. we would start our bath water then undress in our bedroom then go take our bath .it was normal tobe seen by someone in the family.

My head [toilet room] has a door. The only shower is in the sauna and the door is only there to keep in the heat. There have been times when I was in the sauna with friends and my wife and kids would just come in naked and shower then leave.
