  • A fun topic!

Hello everyone. I know it's late, but better late than never! I have sort of a fun topic to discuss among us. Does anyone remember the days of streaking during the 60's and 70's? I checked out a book here in our college library last week by author George Pleasant. It is entitled "The joys of streaking;America's favorite pasttime." It is very enjoyable and funny to read. I figured this subject was obviously right up our alley! Any comments here?

Sounds like fun, but i have never done it myself. I can't run that long. Most people smile and laugh when a streaker goes by. Good fun!!!

Streaking can be fun, but I think a slow walk is better and the fun lasts longer!

Yeah, while streaking can be fun, I am not sure if it is really a positive action. It draws attention and makes nudity a spectacle instead of underscoring the naturalness.

              It's a shame that streaking is a "more-breaking" activity . . .

Yea, I remember those days. I remember the public got a thrill, but the local authorities didn't approve very much.

Well, it is in our neighborhood, but not quite up our alley.

Streaking is similar to nude jogging, but the two are different. Streaking is done in a public place for the purpose of generating a response by the viewer. Nude Jogging is done in an appropriate place (designated nude area or remote infrequently used area) for the purpose of physical and emotional wellness to the jogger.

So, I guess you could say that streaking is in the neighborhood, while nude jogging is in a distant wilderness, which would mean that they aren't even in the same neighborhood, let alone up the same alley. :P

Back in my college days streaking was a pretty common event in the quad outside of the dorms. The streakers were always male-I do not think there ever was a female in the pack. At the time, it seemed like great fun but now, as an "old" person, i guess it was pretty silly!

Streaking is an overt attempt at shock value. It works well. Those were the days, but there were many other aspects of those days I like to put behind me. Such as the war, economic collapse of our economy, Nixon, shuttle loss, Grand Banks closing, and more. But we have today another set of like disasters we created so our children will lament these days as I now do those days. Life goes on !

i went to a very conservative junior college at the time streaking started. the campus chief of police announced that there would be NO streaking on campus! sure enough, about a week later some guys streaked through the girls dorm.

I went to college in the late 70's. Streaking did occur and it was more a spontanous thing than an organized event. From what little I did witness, streaking was a male dominated event, although a few women did participate. To my knowledge, the campus police never did catch any streakers, the campus police back then tended to be a bit less athletic than they are today.

It appears that 'Streaking' began in 1972, not the 60s. Not to say that there wasn't running around in the nude since forever. But the fad called 'Streaking' by that name looks like it started in 1972 at a small Christian College in southern Michigan.

The no longer existing topic on the history of streaking on these forums can still be read through the magic of google: Nudes in the News Story on Streaking
