  • Miss / Mrs / Ms Nude Contests

    Hello,
My wife saw that a nude place we are going to visit is going to have a nude beauty contest. I have always tried to convince her that all nude people are looked upon the same and that jewelry and such was not to be worn because it brings attention to one self. Will someone explain how this works. She says she feels a double standard here.
    Thank You
    Kees Groen

    keesgroen,

First of all, the photo you provided carries a watermark copyright from a porn site. This photo does not represent wholesome family nude recreation.

Second, where is it that you are going to visit? In my 12 years of being a nudist, I have not been to a club that currently holds beauty contests.

I understand that many years ago, some nudist clubs did this, but this is not the way things are now.

The places I am familiar with that hold such contests are not wholesome family clubs. Is the place you are planning on visiting listed at aanr.com?

If you will look at his member info to the left it shows his location as Amsterdam which most likely means he is in Europe (though with the internet who knows).
Clubs in Europe do regularly hold 'Beauty' contests for both male and female juniors and 'seniors'.
Clubs in the USA have fallen prey to the PC ethos of the day and have ceased for the most part having beauty contests.
It is quite right that most of the places in the USA holding such 'contests' are not of the family stripe but more of the "Lifestyle" stripe co-opting the nudist label.

If he is in Europe then it is more than likely the club nearest to him is having a beauty contest and that is all it is ... just like the Miss Peach Blossom or some such contest that are all over the states, it just happens to be held at a naturist club ... being nude really doesn't have anything to do with it other than it is the preferred swimsuit for the 'swimsuit competition'. They still have the talent competition and the 'grace and manners competition' etc., just like clothed contests do.

It isn't "falling prey to the PC ethos."

It was based more on reflection and consideration. A number of factors.

First of all, some elements - primarily those pandering to the adult community, as you said, are co-opting the nudist label. This was particularly true with one midwestern nudist park.

Second, the TNS and AANR view toward nudity is body acceptance -- AS YOUR BODY IS. I guess you might call that "political correctness" in a nudist context, but having beauty pageants while promoting a message that we accept all types, and there are very few people with outstanding physiques --well, it was pretty inconsistent.

So - the "beauty king and queen" contests are a thing of the past in North American nudism, and have been for the last 20 years or so. This has thankfully given way to "your body is fine as it is, come on out and enjoy social nudism."

Agreed completely. I find the recent complaints about public nudity that focus on the naked person being old and/or not young and "beautiful" to be the opposite of the body acceptance that nudists have been promoting for years. The 68 yo man in Brattleboro, for example, was criticized but young people had been nude for some time without much criticism. Likewise in the Seattle Naked Bike Ride it was the older and "saggy" who were criticized. It's the antithisis of body acceptance.

                  Blessings

                  Bob

This topic brings back memories from my childhood (and YES, I am old!). I remember as a child reading about the pagents at Naked City, Indiana! I could not believe the pictures I saw of real live naked men, women, and kids! Go figure...
