hey i am going to high school this year for the first time and showers are mandatory and it is 3 rooms with 25 shower heads and marble soap trays thats it no stalls no prob with public shower as long as i do not know the people or with a girl friend but not other non nudists guys so i do not know if it is mandatory to be nude but how should i act i do not wont people i no but not to well no that i am a nudist so i am pretty sure it is not mandatory to be nude but on since i have not been there before i do not know how to act so should i act head forward don't turn don't drop the soap , or act normal like i am at home - the singing and dancing so gust don't wont to come on to weird and when i took a tour of the school the shower heads are about 3 and 1/2 feet apart so i gust don,t wont to seem strange or gay so can i please get some advice thank you

When I was in junior high we were supposed to shower everyday as part of our grade. The teacher marked our names off as we were coming out of the shower. Only the males had to shower, the girls said they didn't. Interestingly, the guys who tried to act macho and tough all the time never showered. I guess they were afraid to. It was the jocks and us ordinary guys who showered everyday.
My advice is to not worry about it. Just walk in, take off your towel, and just shower as you normally would. Even if you're not at ease at first, pretend that you are. No one will know the difference. Soon the group as a whole (over the course of time) will make clear what is acceptable behavior. A lot of guys will be nervous, by acting like it's no big deal you will make them more comfortable.
By the way, studies have shown that be nude around other members of your sex in these situations, actually is good for your sexual/masculine development. As I said, it was the tough guys who were afraid to shower. They were afraid to be vulnerable. When you become comfortable being nude around other males, it actually increases your hetrosexuality. As you become more confident with your body/sexuality, you become more comfortable with the opposite sex. So don't let any guys tell you it's "gay".

Ethan; I started showering after gym class when I was in jr high school. Age 13. Never had a problem with it. Being nude around my classmates was a "so what". Calm your fears and join in the comradire. Worry more about removing the body odor smell and less about what your classmates think. Rick

Showering in common is normal in such places. Also the military, the YMCA, and other places.Has been a common routhine sinceway before the Romans made public baths popular.

Just be your self and don't do anything offensive.

Shower nude, but you might want to skip the singing and dancing. Don't worry about dropping the soap, in a shower full of guys nobody's going to jump on you.

When you finish showering, dress and go to English class where they'll teach you about punctuation.

What should you do??? Wash your body, dry off, and get dressed.

What should you wear? Your Skin.

If you follow the good advice given in the earlier postings, you will do well. Just get the job done. If anyone says anything, just tell them that they're insecurity is showing. Tell them that you are secure enough in who you are to be able to shower with other guys. If the "gay" issue is raised, tell them that all of the Major League ball players shower together. Think about some snappy replies before you go to gym. If you maintain your confidence, you will end up more respected by your peers. Remember, people use teasing to cover up their own insecurities.

Just an observation here. Why are so many guys afraid of other guys who may or may not be gay? Do heterosexual guys today think that gays will attack them? In my gym locker room there seems to be ramapant 'homophobia' among the younger male members. Guys will wrap themselves in a towel before they undress then walk to the shower stall which is private and completely enclosed before removing the towel. This is very common for the younger guys. However, the older generation could care less and just walks to the shower without all the 'covering up' from towels. Dont worry about taking a nude shower Ethan. The guys who feel comfortable in their own skin wont have any problems with it. Those 'macho types' who put on a brave front are the ones with the insecurity issues.

I do not think that young people are more homophobe than older ones. In fact, polls indicate that young people are more accepting of gays than older people. There are the gay/straight alliances in many high schools.

However, maybe young people are more aware of possible sexual attraction between men than older ones. The difference between nowdays and 30 years before, is that before, all men were supposed to be heterosexuals, now, young people know that gay men exist in large numbers.

To the question of why men worry about who may be gay: the reason why men worry about it is because most men believe all women find them sexy. Women under-rate their bodies; men over-rate their's. That's why so many women don't want to appear on the beach in a swimsuit, while a lot of men will wear a speedo. Since most men are so sure they're attractive, they assume gay men find them attractive and will hit on them.

Q: When will women be men's equals?

A: When a woman can be bald, pot-bellied; and still think they're attractive to the opposite sex.

And For all you guys that have Hair that's taller than you are, You might want to know that there are just as many women that are attracted to bald me as there are Bald Men.

Just take a shower. Don't dance and sing like your at home. Get in - Get out - Get to your next class.

Act as if it is the most normal thing for you to be doing and pretty soon it will really seem normal. Don't let it really bother you, because you will be better informed than anyone else.

Ditto to the above. You don't have to always be the one following what everyone else does. If you are stubborn enough and don't care what others think you might start a new trend in high school: taking a shower after gym class.

It comes with age we grew up in.

During the 1950's I did the following and thought nothing of it.

Showered in communal showers.

Wore a racing swimsuit 40+ hours per week while working at a country club swimming pool.

Wore shorts with a 1" inseam in front of 5,000 people while playing HS basketball.

Even today it does not bother me to wear a speedo or shorts in public.

Things would really come full circle if the boys and girls undress for gym class and then exercise in the nude. After all, look up the Greek word for gymnasium and you'll see that it means (rough translation) "place of nudity".
