  • Worm Threat - Not an urban legend.

There is a very serious worm threat alert with which all need to acquaint themselves. Details here.

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11114993/

My suggestion is to be expecially vigilent, update your definitions Now! not later, and run a full, deep scan overnight for the next few days and make a note of the freeware virus extraction tool site that is listed in the link above.

If you are a computer neophyte or get lots of e-mails and forwarded e-mails from people, ask someone more knowlegeable for some guidance.

This one seems to have caught the serious attention of some people I know who do not get spooked by the usual virus alerts--so, I'm impressed.

Good, Important post. A lot of folks are already infected and just waiting. This can be big trouble for some.

      Updating and scanning are critical.

One might also back up all your data to a removable hard drive tonight.

Don't forget to lock up your wives and children!

There is nothing special about this particular virus. It is more destructive then most of the others, but it doesn't have any magic code that gives it super powers. By the way, it is triggered by the date on your computer being the 3rd of the month...any month. That means it will still be passing around for next month, and the month after that.

There is no need to panic if you practise "safe internet". Just make sure you are running an up-to-date anti virus programme, and don't click on any attachments that arrive in e-mails that you didn't expect. Its that simple. Really. Just common sense...(Oh no! We really are in deep trouble!)

Or you can just get a Mac! Seriously there are no virisus or spyware on OSX. You don't need to install Norton or other AV software that will often times slow down your system. You can enable the built-in firewall to be extra secure.

There is a neat new Intel based Imac that just came out.
