  • Naked Protest

Today in Ohio people boycotted and demonstrated against K of C for cruel abuse of chickens. They were totally nude but were covered by a protest banner front and back.

How many of you have protested in public nude ??

I never did. Though I see where they are coming from but than again people ate chickens since anyone can remember and I don't remember/know anyone who would pamper the chickens either.

Thats how the food chain goes..one day we might be on the bottom of the food chain too.

My only problem with nude protest is that nudity is used to shock rather than educate. I understand that nudity is a surefire way to get people's attention, but that poses a bit of a philosophical dilemma for me.

There's more levels than pampering and abuse though. I doubt the protesters were suggesting that everyone stop eating chicken, just stop keeping them in tiny, dark cages and whatever else (I don't know the specifics here, but have seen similar on TV in the past with hundreds of chickens crammed into tiny cages)

From what I have seen, roasting chickens aren't kept in small cages. They need exercise to build muscle (i.e. meat). Laying hens are kept in small cages to minimize egg loss and make it less expensive to gather the eggs. And neither of them are kept in dark cages. They need good lighting to be "productive".

I have to agree with Nudony, not sure if the nudity does anything but get attention. Is that the way to education people on nudism?

I'm sure that was KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) and not K of C (Knights of Colombus.)

I agree that nudity is often used for "Shock Value" in various protests thoughout the world. It does nothing to promote nudism.

I used to raise about 75 chickens every year. They were "layers, not fryers". They had a huge pen in the barn with roosting boxes and lots of free range too. I gathered, washed, cartoned, and sold about 6 dozen eggs per day. Never ran out of customers because the eggs were HUGE. All of the above activity was occasionally done nude.
And on Fridays I would stop at KFC and get a take-out dinner without any guilt at all.

Someone sent me this some time after I had my poached egg for breakfast and before my chicken salad for lunch.

Wow, they'd have a fit if they found out how my Grandmother butchered her chickens. She just wrung their necks and let them run around until they 'killed' over.

As a kid I worked on an egg farm. These hens were in a large barn free to roam thru the whole barn floor area and that had a track that brought food around the whole area. Water was also available in several places and always fresh. THe walls had small 1 foot by 1 foot boxes with open fronts and hay inside and that is where the hens would go to lay the eggs. The only thing done to the chickens was to cut part of the end of the top beek off to keep them from pecking other chickens and killing each other. THey could eat and drink fine and not hurt one another.

Chickens for meet were kept 52 days. They had less than 2 months of life and off they went to the butcher and our table.

Perhaps not, but they are not going nude with the intent to promote nudism. I doubt there are any nudists among them.

Exactly, shãybare. I was going to put it this way:

Protestestors are not in it to educate people about nudism. Why should we expect them to be? As Cyndiannaked used to say, "Nudists do not own nudity."

Agreed. It does not help us nudists one bit having groups like Peta using nude protests in a attempt to get more attention. As far as Peta goes, let's just say they are one of the more hypocritial groups out there.
