  • Vitamin D reduces cancer risk.

Interesting. This may explain why Scandinavians have a higher rate of cancer than people in southern Europe. I would not say that burning is good, but spending some time in the sun getting exposure to all areas might be more than just psychologically beneficial.

Vitamin D is produced by the body to help it function. Skin color is the body's method of regulating the production to what it needs. The lighter the skin the more production when exposed to sunlight but when there is not enough sunlight despite the lightest skin, vitamin D has got to gotten through diet. That is why people from the nearer the polar regions of the world can tolerate milk as adults better than adults from more equitorial regions.
(milk is toxic and can be lethal to adult humans for a number of reasons but one has to to with causing excess vitamin D in the body and with today's fortified milk it is even more toxic for adults)
So take care when exposing the body to sunlight, do not just lay under the sun and burn. Do something active and find shade often and you will get an even tan and a natural tan and not tip the production of vitamin D out of balance doing it.
