  • Tornadoes in Alabama

Hello everyone. I have been hearing all day about apparently two tornadoes that have struck somewhere in the state of Alabama today. Included in the story was the possible destruction of a high school. Is there anyone here on our forum living in or near the vicinity of this tragedy? I also heard that at least 13 people have lost their lives in the wake of this. If anyone has indeed been affected in any way, my thoughts and prayers are with you along with those touched by all of this.

The following link is to the story in the Dothan, Alabama Paper called the Dothan Eagle. It has information on the tornado and the high school that was hit.

The same super storm continued on. There was also a tornado in Americus. The tornado struck a hospital and two people died in the hospital. (This is near Jimmy Carter's hometown of Plains.) You can check out the link to Albany, Georgia's Channel 10 for more information.

A meteorologist on Savannah's WSAV said that the storms held together until they reached the middle Savannah River Valley. This means that the storms started in Southwest Alabama and remained in tact until they had also crossed the entire state of Georgia.

Thanks for your concern. I'm here in East Alabama, and fortunately faired well, just lots of heavy rain and winds , but there were times, we were saying our prayers and hoping for the best.

I met up with a member of the local school board in my favorite health food store. We discussed what happened in Enterprise.

I asked if the schools in Savannah could have been any safer. She said she did not know, and since they are building quite a few more, she would ask the superintendent at next week's board meeting.

I think this is a good question for all us to find out. If we have kids in the schools, we should expect that some place, such as the halls would prove to be safe.

Nature can be the worst enemy of Man there is. It is without control or recourse. It lays waste with out concern to skin color, race, religion, national origin, level of social status, education or anyting. It just takes. Yet it also gives so much. For those who have lost so much it is all but impossible to imagine being shoved into such a state of being.

One can only pray that this kind of terror never happens to anyone again, yet is shall as life goes on.
