I understand how you feel, but there are some interesting facts behind the history of the abbreviation:

In Greek, the language of the New Testament, the name Christ begins with the letter Chi (X), which has been used for many centuries as an abbreviation for Jesus Christ.

Urban legend has is that the abbreviation for Christmas began by secularists who wanted to X Christ out of his own holiday. It's just a myth, but I still prefer to write out the entire word.
