  • Pornography Addicts

    From an MSN article today:

"According to experts, 25 million Americans visit cyber-sex sites each week, leading some to become sex addicts." "Pornography is everywhere and the ease of a person being able to get their hands on it is turning countless numbers into porno addicts, becomming hooked without knowing it."

If so many people are into pornography, then why on earth is there so much opposition to harmless nudism in America? Is it because pornography is an enormous business (with fantastic money making potential) and is very well advertised and marketed whereas nudism is not?

Personaly, I am not against pornography.

I think that you can be addict to anything (sugar, coffee, alcool, the internet, drugs, the bingo, lotery and also porn...)

The problem is not the thing the person is addict to but the person itself.

Personaly I like to watch some gay porn before going to bed, it helps to relax me, but I do not consider myself really addict to it.

About naturism, I would say that it takes more openess and courage to go to a nude beach or resort, than simply watch porn in the privacy of your home.

The expert being interviewed, Dr. Laura Bergman, did NOT say that 25 million Americans are porn addicts or that watching pornography in itself is a bad thing. What she said was that some people consume porn to the extent that is wrecks the rest of their lives, and that a fraction of the 25 million American weekly porn viewers are porn addicts. Remember folks, headlines are primarily for grabbing your attention, they are not necessarily a summary of the article.

Maybe because nudism is more liberating than porn. Some people are afraid of liberty. Nudity is simple and free.

I do not have any figures to support this, but I have heard people make claims that non-sexual, social nudism actually helped them, and pretty much eliminated their desire for porn.

There was some mention of the reach of internet porn on the Today show recently. Clearly everyone with internet access has the ability to view every kind of porn imaginable citing that the shear number of sites has increased by the millions over the last few years!

It was also mentioned that when lives are affected by this, it becomes dangerous and counter-productive to society. We all have to keep this, and everything else in our lives, in proportion!

I am also not against pornography. I do not frequent the sites, but I do not hold anything against anyone that does.

Maybe I am getting ahead of myself here, but I think that rational people can clearly see the difference between porn and non-sexual social nudity. If they can't, I would be the first one to direct them to any of the nudist organization web sites or this one.

Social nudity and porn are definitely two differents things.

I also think that they answer to two differents needs and the two needs are legitimate.

Social nudity is relaxing and porn is also relaxing, but in another way. Both are fun.

By the way, nudism may also be addicting. I would have a lot of trouble to sleep with clothes!

Anything is able to be bad for you if not used or taken in proper proportion. I love nudity and know when to enjoy it. I indulge in a little porn wiht or without the wife on late-night T.V, but certainly can take or leave it.

To clarify, the first two paragraphs of my above posting were direct quotes from the MSN article. The quotes and following article state that only SOME of the 25 million viewers are addicted to porn. No where was it ever mentioned or implied that all 25 million peple are addicted to porn. However, the point that I was trying to make is not whether porn is good or bad. The point is that porn appears to be so much more openly popular then nudism. Porn is a multi billion dolar business that is very lucrative. Why is not nudism as accepted by society and what are the reasons for nudism to not be as accepted?

I lot of people can't seem to separate the two, and figure they can regulate the nudists.
Similar to the Brady bunch regulating lawful people, instead of the lawless.
At least, if I'm wrong, per se, it's the same mentality, and an awful lack of logic.

Sanslines:"If so many people are into pornography, then why on earth is there so much opposition to harmless nudism in America?"

Pornography may be a very productive business and popular with some people, but it is still opposed by many others. Liberal women's groups do not like it as it debases women and creates fantastic images that no real women can live up to. Some also believe that pornography leads to more aggressive sexual behaviours by viewers.

Conservative groups do not like it as it debases the image of chastity and sexual intimacy that should be inherent in a marriage and only within a marriage. The sin of lust also plays into their opposition to porn.

Nudism, at least to conservatives today (especially the RRR), is just as bad as porn as it involves public displays of nudity. To them, nudity should be reserved to intimate settings. Add children to the mix of nudism and they get all up in arms about exposing them to indecency.

                          Bob S.

Since long before recorded time there were both pornography of some sort and also nudism as we enjoy it.

Each has their use, time and place for us. The more man becomes 'refined' the more pornography expands and refines but nudism remains the same now as it did a million years ago.

Man as a species is an addivtive speciman of the total life forms on this planet. Every person on earth has an addiction of some kind. Some are drawn to that addiction and consumed by it, others are able to control it. In each case the only way to 'cure' oneself of an addiction is simply to WANT to change. A prime example of this is that a smoker or alcoholic will not change until they actually want to change. They can take all the pills, patches, therapy and what ever they want but they will not change until that want comes in to play.

There are addictions that are harmless as much as there are those that are deadly. Nudism is harmless!

Let's go with the simple answer...

Porn is a Spectator pursuit, while nudism is Participatory. Huge Difference!

How many millions upon millions of hard-core, dyed-in-the-wool sports fans are out there, fans who would never never, ever ever actually get out on the field themselves to Participate in baseball, football, NASCAR racing, hockey, basketball, pro golf, skiing, wrestling, sky-diving, boxing, etc. etc., ad infinitum?

Same difference between porn and nudism, hey?
