Figure Drawing

I can't stand it anymore. I want to be able to create beauty in the world. I want to be able to record natural beauty in the world. I have such a need to record natural beauty that I'm willing to do it. The human body in its natural habitat in it's natural state is nothing but beautiful.

I want to learn how to be a fine figure artist. Unfortunately, I'll be teaching myself the Art, since I can't afford formal tutoring. But I love to be able to record God's beauty and grace!

I dabble in art and have done so, on and off for over 35 years.

At the age of 49, I'm getting more into art and the serious studies of illustrating. I have found the INA Member's Photo Gallery to be a goldmine of subject material.

What I love about the photographs are the variety of subjects and real nature of the photographs.

The fact, folks, is that not every female is Playmate material and not every man will come close to being featured in Sports Illustrated or Muscle & Fitness.

Naturists (or nudists) are real people and not limited to those who make a career out of being gorgeous.

There are plenty of excellent books on the subject of art for art students who are working on developing technique.

Personaly, I highly recommend any of the books by the late Jack Hamm. His texts provide a very practical and informative approach. There are plenty of illustrations and instructions without being long-winded on words.

One way to learn is to teach yourself. Art classes basically have you copy an image without tracing. My sister put my nephew (which has a gift for drawing) to the challange. She challenged my nephew to duplicate an image he liked WITHOUT tracing it. He ended up doing a d_mn good job and has been hooked ever since. It's all PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE.

Rather than formal classes, you may be able to find non-instructed studios at which you just contribute for the room rental and model fees. Where I am, the cost ranges from $4 CDN to $8 CDN ($5.50 USD to $11 USD) for 2.5 hours, that is only $2 USD per hour if you can get something at the lower price.
