  • Help fund Skinbook's relaunch

    Hi all,

For those of you who are fed up of Facebook's rules and regulations on posting nude photos and would like a new social networking site, you might like to help fund the re-launching of Skinbook.

Skinbook originally started as a Myspace group in 2008 by four university students from Manchester in the UK, and it became one of the most critically acclaimed nudist websites with positive reviews from the likes of TIME magazine as well as some women's e-zines. In 2009 it moved to the Ning network and gained over 9,000 members and thrived until mid 2011 when the founder of the site became disillusioned with some questionable people who were trying to join as well as a couple he had entrusted to moderate the site and decided to opt out of nudism altogether.

I was a member of the network, and I am planning to bring it back bigger and better than ever. However, it is going to cost me quite a bit of money in order to do so. I would like to therefore humbly ask of you CFFers to help fund the creating and launching of the site on a new server whereby you can post full on non-sexual nude and artistic nude photos without the fear of getting your account blocked.

I've created a Go Fund Me campaign, which you can check out at: http://www.gofundme.com/3u5nah7hg

So far, only one person has contributed to it in the 22 days the campaign has been running.

    Thanks in advance.

Thank you for this effort. I just contributed and encourage others to do so also, even if just a few dollars.

For starters, have you thought about how much it will cost to re-acquire the skinbook.com domain name? Probably more than the $750 you are planning to acquire under your crowd-funding effort.

Second - why did skinbook.com owners abandon the effort? Sure, what you said may have been a factor - but what about the total costs? Bandwidth? Administration costs? Server costs, etc.

If it was a high-traffic site, you're not going to be able to put it up for $750. I wish you luck, but I'd aim higher, because the overhead will be more if the site gets used. And many sites that have "adult content" - and nudity is considered as such in the computer/Internet industry -- have high hit rates, and high overhead.

Again I wish you luck - but I would also talk with an Internet pro or two to obtain a true TCOA (total cost of ownership).
