  • what do you wear on a nude beach or clothing optional beach

I know that it may seem like a silly question after all you are suppose to be not wearing anything . That is the idea of a nude beach .
I myself wear my sandals and my Ball cap so that I have some place to put my wii fit meter on .

Sandals, definitely sandals. The only nude beach near me is lakeside in Austin and very rocky so sandals are a must. Cap, sometimes...it gets hot here and you need something. Now, at nude resorts....sandals only when necessary....and usually a nice smile. Gotta have that smile!

Sunglasses, flip flops when necessary but if sandy ... barefoot and sometimes a hat. Not always, but I will put on sunscreen occasionally.

Nothing once I get situated. Gym shorts and flip flops from the car to the shoreline. Never a shirt. Sometimes surprises me how much clothing some men wear from the car to the beach. Last week I went to Gunnison. A young man arrived in my general area wearing a tank top and over the knee "cargo shorts". When he took of the shorts, he had a squarecut swim suit under them. Since he took it off shortly thereafter, why did he bother to wear it at all? Better yet, wear it and leave the long shorts and shirt behind.

there are all sorts of rituals you see at gunnison (or any beach). the slow-motion clothed-to-nude evolution is one of them. and it's not just newbies. i've seen both men and women, young and old, take a 1/2 hour to get nude after finding a spot. and, often, you can tell that they probably come to the beach alot because of their lack of tanlines. why does this happen? who knows, but it seems to be a common quirk.

me? i wear shorts and a t-shirt. i wear the t-shirt because i have a backpack chair and the long walk across gunnison is more comfortable if i have something on my shoulders. but, once my wife and i find our spot, everything comes off at once and then i set up the umbrella and towels.

I've/we've seen that ritual but from ladies, more than men. My wife's thoughts are; many of the women start out slowly for a couple of reasons but ultimately for the same reason ... "what type of attention am I going to generate ..." If simply being a female, and a covered female on a nude beach is enough to cause some unwanted attention, "what will happen if I take my clothes off!?" If a woman remains clothed, then goes topless and no increase in attention, then she'll go nude and hopefully be able to enjoy her day without a slew of gawkers and parade of guys that will walk back and forth pretending not to be gawking.

To and from the car to the sand, we wear the minimum. She is usually in a sundress and her Teva hiking shoes. I'm in lightweight, sometimes mesh shorts and Teva hiking shoes. Only thing we dislike about those outfits ... the Teva's sometimes get small rocks in them between your toes and the soles of your feet and the sole of the shoe. Sometimes we have to stop more often to dislodge the small rocks.

It depends on the trail to the nude beach. Sometimes we are able to wear flip flops but many nude beaches are remote and the Teva's offer better support and grip of the ground. Once on the sand, my Teva's come off, as well as my shorts, unless we have to navigate through a clothed area to the nude area. Once at our spot, I drop the chair, umbrella, the cooler and my shorts ... naked in about 5 seconds! hahahaha

My wife sets up her chair, slips outta her shoes and then slides the sundress off and eagerly awaits my setting up of the umbrella. She's gotta be careful in the sun. Too bad, she gets a killer suntan for an Irish woman but two too many pre cancer spots removed to take any more chances with direct sun exposure.

Sunglasses but more important is what I wear TO the beach since it's hard getting dressed with sand all over. Elastic waist or a sundress because it's easy.

                          totally agree.

we were able to go to gunnison yesterday, although we didn't plan on it. a surprise change in plans meant we had to hurry to sandy hook from brooklyn before the gates closed due to crowds. just like any weekend or holiday, Lot G was closed by the time we got there are 10.15, but we were able to park over by the fort before that was quickly filled up and closed.

the beach was PACKED. basically wall-to-wall people, mostly nude. we could spot the slow strip among a bunch of people who looked like newbies. lots of tan lines! but is was great to see people who had some trepidation eventually lose their nervousness, strip down, and have fun. hopefully they will make it a habit!

the weirdest thing about gunnison is the "clothed area" right next to the nude area. it's sizable but i never see many people settle on that side of the sign. maybe it has to be there due to some regulation, but it would be great to remove that designation and be able to use the entire beach. the only thing that "entering clothed area" sign seems to be good for these days is for nude people to use as a prop to take a quick photo next to with their phones. i've done it!

Seems getting to the beach here is much different than the west coast. The only designated nude beach is hippie hollow on lake Travis in Austin, TX. Access is easy since the actual park is just out of site from the parking lot. But where you park determines what you need to wear. If you park by the front entrance, you need to be covered from car to the sign near the lake. But if you park off to the side near the trail head, there is no such signage. You can get out of your car clothes free and start the day. This is my usual parking spot. And the trail goes a half mile of so through some easy terrain you could walk barefoot if you were so inclined. Based on this, you could actually leave your house in nothing more than a wrap and unwind the entire day only needing to cover up when traffic requires and when you pay at the gate.

The other common beach for nude use in Texas is South Padre Island. And you can drive to any spot you want and just get out of the car where you set up. While we haven't been there, it's on the bucket list and if we stay at one of the nude campgrounds about an hour away, you should not have to wear anything the entire trip unless you née to exit your vehicle en route.

Not any nude beaches near Atlanta so I don't get to one very often. When I traveled for business I'd visit one iwhen close by. Just shorts and shirt and beach shoes of some kind. If carring stuff, folding chair, towel , umbrella etc. I'd stay dressed until I picked a spot then dropped it all then get naked , then set up. Going back to the car it was the opposite. I'd get as close to the beach ramp as I could before putting on shorts. So, that's a good question. When do you get dressed when heading back to the car to go home?
