  • Universal Nudist Symbol

The symbol used for nudists, so I've been told.

I don't recall ever previously seeing that symbol before.

At one time, the Naturist Society pushed the idea of claiming ownership of the capital letter "N" as the symbol for nudism.

In Europe, the letters FKK, which stand for Freikörper-Kultur or Free Body Culture, are understood to represent nudism.

Something like the following might be more universally understood.

As long as we are talking about symbols, the following are the logos for 1. the American Association for Nude Recreation, 2. its progenitor the American Sunbathing Association, 3. the Naturist Society, and 4, the International Naturist Federation. None of the logos actually scream "Nudist" to me. I'll give the American Association for Nude Recreation points for having the word "Nude" in their name. The word "Naturist" just doesn't work. Most Americans are unfamiliar with the word and confuse it with "Naturalist".

The Naturist Symbol is being pushed by quite a few nudists though I'm not sure it's the "Official symbol" just yet. https://www.naturistsymbol.org

It’s kind of similar to ClothesFree.com’s symbol that’s be around for 20 years with hills and a sun. Both are good!

I miss the old WSA symbol I can't even find it on the interwebs right now. It was just a bright happy smiling sun and it was really kinda perfect

That's the one. There is one that's a liitle different, orange, but yes, it's a smiling sun with shades on

Logos have been important since emperors and kings invented banners for armies to march behind, but in this era of globalized hyper-marketing, it is truly surprising that naturists don't have one. It should however tell a story and represent our values. I'm not sure anyone would understand straight-away that a sun over hills represents naturism. Of all the naturist logos around, my favorites are the image part of the old Naturist Society logo, the Dayton Warm Breezes Naturist Club logo, and a logo that I can't remember who to credit -- I find them very cheerfully naturist.

the fact you see hills and I see an ocean says how overly simple and unrepresentative it is. It looks like someone did it on Microsoft paint in 15 minutes back in the mid 90's when the internet sucked. I find it uninspiring

the sun i pretty universal to naturists logos for sure. They're on the right track but that ain't it.

I'll give our local nudist park, White Tail Resort, some credit here.

White Tail's sign uses the word "nudist", not "naturist". Everyone knows what "nudist" means. Lots of people confuse the word "naturist" with "naturalist".

White Tail's most popular t-shirt shows bare bottoms. Logos that feature a sun or silhouettes of people who might or might not be wearing swimsuits are ambiguous. A logo featuring a penis or female nipples is a nonstarter in the United States due to general prudery. Human butt cheeks provide a clear statement and generally fly under the radar of the censors.

It's a pity they did not participate in the competition for the Naturist Symbol. https://www.naturistsymbol.org/history/

Although the design is not perfect, most important is to have one design that we can all recognize as a symbol to recognize naturists even when we have to wear clothes.

The Naturist Symbol has been around now for one year. More and more naturists/nudists recognize it and some use it in the textile world to show they are a naturist.

See the website www.naturistsymbol.org for information and inspiration.
