  • Dateline McDonalds strip search

Did anyone see the story on DATELINE where a guy called McDonalds claiming to be the police and had the assistant Manager strip search a female employee? I wonder how that would have played at a nude resort like Caliente?

Caliente would be more suspicous of the call and ask for a warrent. It's the job of the police to do the strip search, not some civilian.

First, it was on ABC's Primetime Live, not NBC's Dateline.

Anyone with half a brain would have been suspicious. The authorities will NEVER ask anyone else to strip search someone, especially over the phone.

The manager should have been charged with a crime. I hope she was fired at least. Her fiancee was beyond idiotic for complying with the requests (unless of course he was a part of it--I watched ER as well).

Id be surprised if the illiterate people who work there even know what a "warrant" is. They cant understand anything else you say to them. I guess they can understand things when they have to really try hard enough to do so.

"Yet even when visual prompts are absent, folks still fall for outlandish schemes whose perpetrators merely manage to sound believable. For instance, during the five-year span of 1999 to 2004, one fellow got his jollies by pursuading employees of various fast food outlets around the U.S. to conduct strip searches. By telephone, he would identify himself as a police officer or as a member of that restaurant's management, report that a purse had been stolen, and require the franchise's manager to have the suspect (a female, almost always an employee, but in one case a 17-year-old customer) disrobe.

"The victims of this scam were many, as the hoax was successfully carried out in eateries around the nation, hitting Taco Bell, McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King, Ruby Tuesday, Applebee's, Perkins, and others. One of the wronged women has brought suit against the restaurant where she worked for the part its shift manager had played in her "search." In April 2004, Sarah Wood sued the Applebee's in Charleston, West Virginia, where she had been made to strip naked by a shift manager who had received such a call. The abused worker was left standing in her birthday suit for 45 minutes before her clothes were returned to her and she was allowed to leave.

"In July 2004 a 38-year-old Florida man was arrested in connection with this crime spree. David R. Stewart was apprehended at his home on a fugitive from justice warrant from Mount Washington, Kentucky. Police in the Bluegrass State want him on a charge of soliciting for sodomy, a felony."

And any female, employee or customer, who would comply with such a request, is even further beyond...

(Unless she is an exhibitionist who is in on the game... )

It goes to show how some people just can't think for themselves. As we mature we gain more experiences in life and see things more for what they really are.(hopefully)

This isn't the least bit surprising. It just illustrates the tendency of most people to comply with authority, even when it goes against their own conscience. Stanley Milgram demonstrated this back in the 60's. As has the Bush Administration at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo.

As a former employee of McDonald's, I resent this remark. Especially since it's been reported at different places. It's evident that you never worked when you were a teenager, for most do what they are told by an athoritive figure. Now as for the manager, yes there are some that are complete j**k-a***s, but aren't all bosses?!

the funny thing is the guy that made the call did it to a lot of other places in america and they also did what they were told by the "officer". This is how Bush got elected twice.

Alot of fast food places like Burger King, Carl's Jr, and many other such places have the same idiots working at them. This has alot to do with poor management and the fact these bozos wanna hire the dumbest people so they can pay them the least amount of money.

It's evident that you never worked when you were a teenager, for most do what they are told by an athoritive figure.
I have worked in the past at a volunteer job in my school library. Most of the time yes I would do what an authoritive figure tells me to do but there are some things which I wouldnt do if they conflicted with my morals because I know they are wrong and it wouldnt matter who told me to do them.

Now as for the manager, yes there are some that are complete j**k-a***s, but aren't all bosses?!
Management at McDonalds has degraded alot in the past years, which is evident by the current lowlifes they hire there. Those places used to have a good reputation because they hired quality people but now they just dont care and only are concerned by saving money rather than having quality help.

Moboy, the manager was the one who had her take her clothes off. Her fiancee spanked her so much that she had welts on her buttocks.

After the fiancee was finished, the next two employees were asked to do indecent things with the employee and they rightfully refused and told the manager.

Mark, I recall hearing about that experiment. There was also the Zimbardo/Stanford prison experiment. Scary what someone can do when they feel empowered and what one will endure when they feel helpless.

Both apply to the McDonald's Primetime story, Abu Ghraib, Gitmo, slavery, Concentration camps, and any other similar place where one group is seen as inferior to the people in charge.
