  • Naked Ramble strikes up relationship with convict in Jail

SHOTGUN killer Jamie Bain and Naked Rambler Stephen Gough have
struck up an unlikely friendship in Saughton Prison over games on a
    PlayStation.

The pair have bonded during hours spent together in the jail's
    segregation wing.

Ex-marine Gough is said to have allowed the Marmion pub killer to
    use his personal pin number......

Steve Gough has now been in Prison since November 2005:

"Only a handful of prisoners are kept in segregation at Saughton at any one time, with Bain and Gough currently the only two in that section long-term."

If anybody wonders what the flag says sticking out of Steve's rucksack, it says:

        "The Freedom To Be Yourself"

        Which explains his mission.

          Margaret Cook's article says;

YET it is possible to delve for a serious question or two, like - why are we so secretive about the sexual parts of our bodies? And why the linking of secrecy with shame and wickedness, so that the law forces us to hide our sex?

It's already been filmed and broadcast to the nation by the BBC.
Roughly speaking the scenario is this: Just before Steve's release
two policemen arrive, back their van up and open the rear doors.
Steve emerges from the small door at the back of the prison into the
car park. It's 7.30 in the morning and only Steve and the waiting
officers are present. The moment he steps from the door they demand
he gets dressed. He refuses, and they bundle him into the van, which
is about six feet away from the prison door. They take him down the
nick and charge him with breach of the peace, which clearly could
never have happened. The next day he refuses to dress for the court
hearing and is given two months jail for contempt. Just as that
sentence is about to finish, the sheriff hands down six months on the
original charge of breach of the peace. It's absolute bollocks, and a
disgusting abuse of the legal system.

I am visiting Edinburgh 19-22 January, and have written to Steve to
see if he can arrange for me to visit him at Saughton (Edinburgh) jail.

Thank you all for the various responses received. Unfortunately I
have now heard from Steve, who writes:

I'm only allowed visits on the condition that I dress.
This is something I'm not prepared to do, as you know.
I'm in the process of challenging this, but that is how it stands at the moment.
My High Court Appeals are set for 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 13th and 14th February in front of five judges. I'm staying naked for that also -- so who knows what will happen --
              if, indeed, it does!

So I'm afraid that I won't be seeing him after all. I am writing again, however, and will include the responses to my invitation.
