  • World Strip Poker Championship

It seems London hosted the first World Strip Poker Championships. 200 contestants vying for 10,000 British pounds. See story below:

    From MSNBC:

LONDON - Up to 200 strip poker players competed on Saturday to see who will lose their shirts — and more — and who will scoop 10,000 pounds by retaining their clothes and modesty.

Organized by Irish bookmaker Paddy Power, the inaugural World Strip Poker Championship takes place at the prestigious Cafe Royal in central London with players battling it out in games of “No Limit Texas Hold ’em”.

The bookmaker said it decided to hold the competition after its spoof April Fool earlier this year generated a lot of interest.

Players of both sexes from over 12 countries are battling it it out for the “Gold Fig Leaf” trophy and the right to revel in the title of World Strip Poker Champion.

Aside from strict rules governing the poker play, there are clear guidelines on the stripping element — most importantly that each player starts the match by wearing five items of clothing supplied by the organizers.

Each contestant has been given a towel to sit on and to cover themselves when naked, but only after they have stripped completely.

“Inappropriate behavior,” will not be tolerated, said the organizers.

Strip poker. Hmm. Is that nudism? Or nudity for sexual titilation, Bob?

I'm inclined to suggest it's the latter.

As everyone can see from this excellent news report (which isn't afraid to bare it all), the event was very much for pure fun:

Stu, you need to clean out that lascivious mind of yours! I suggest that you attend the next one.

Stu, in this case, it is neither. Reread the story. It started as an April Fool's Day event. Pure fun/entertainment. It was such a rousing success that they decided to turn it into a larger event.

There was no inappropriate behaviour allowed, so you cannot claim nudity for sexual titilation. Were some people there for the titlating chance to see the nudity, perhaps, but it was not an event for that. And while I am sure there were some nudists there, it wasn't a nudist event.

Seems to have been just a "fun" event.

I wish I could participate in a strip poker Texas Hold-em tournament. Sounds and looks fun. I play Texas Hold-em at a local Indian Casino, but not strip poker. Maybe I'll ask and see if there is any interest for a strip poker challenge.

                Thanks for sharing with us.

I'm not sure I follow that logic, Bob. Many activities are done for sexual gratification but don't involve "inappropriate behaviour". Strip joints are a classic example. The nudity is for sexual gratification but inappropriate behaviour will get you thrown out.

Don't misunderstand me - I'm not making a value judgement about this. If people get a buzz out of this, sexual or otherwise, and they are neither hurting nor offendinmg anyone, then that's OK in my book.

From what I know about nudism as a result of discussions with my friends here, it is about relaxation, being natural, enjoying a feeling of freedom etc. Strip poker, on the other hand, is pure thrill. Whether it has a sexual element (voyeurism, exhibitionism etc) or is simply excitement for doing something daring and risquè I suppose depends upon the individual. Many nudists seek to naturalise the naked state - make it ordinary rather than extraordinary. If they ever succeed, strip poker will lose its appeal and this particular avenue of "fun" will be closed off for ever. Just a thought.

As much as my wife loves playing cards, she might would chance having to get naked to join such a tournament, in the right place.

The nudity is what we are talking about. The nudity in a strip club is specifically for sexual titilation/gratification. The nudity in this strip poker tourney is a sign of someone who is losing/has lost. In fact, after the person has lost everything, they must wrap their towel around themselves. In a strip club, the nudity is to be ogled at, cheered, and enjoyed in a sexual way. In this tourney, the nudity is to be respected.

so if you were a nudist would the rules change to were you started out without clothes and then added on when you lost a hand. That way the loser is the one with the clothes and the winner is without

One of the women involved in this was on a local radio station this afternoon talking about it. She also is a former Playboy Playmate of the month, so I'd take it does have some sexual aspects.

sportkid, I believe some nudist parks and groups have done reverse strip poker.
