Woman gets stabbed at Florida Nudist Resort

These are frightening times because we all become aware of the sensational and scary right away. The fact is that we are safer day by day today than we have been in a long long time. Violent crime is low and dropping, and has been dropping steadily for several decades - it's just that it has a greater share of our bloated media. Fear sells, and we have become a fear based society, despite reality.

Nudists think that nudist resorts are safe places. If you compare them to textile campgrounds and resorts I'm certain they are much safer. Crimes like that stabbing are the exception.

Very well stated Mark. As a whole we are truly safer as a nation. I often think that our ability to communicate over such vast distances at nearly simultaneous intervals is much more of a curse than a blessing. Maybe we need to rebook this whole internet thingy...

One of the great advantages of naturism is the way in which you embrace and respect the world and people around you. Unfortunately, this leaves you vulnerable in many different ways as evidenced by this tragedy.

in case anyone hasn't noticed, these are different times. Too many shootings. Too many crimes in general. We have to be careful, vigilant and acutely aware of our surroundings. I presume that 18 yr old woman was unaware of the present danger. Its a shame.

This is a frightening incident to read and/or hear about at a nudist/naturist resort or club. Unless I am wrong, we have always taken for granter our safety at these venues due to it being not open to the general public. This makes it a more controlled environment with a select group of people with obvious high behavior standards. But as Bob S. said, times have definitely changed and for the worst. I wish the victim a full and speedy recovery.I also hope that the boy's needs will also be tended to as well.

Acting out due to bullying or not fitting in will generally not result in a random attack against a stranger. There were most likely red flags that the parents and his friends missed pr ignored.

The resort general manager indicated in the Yahoo news article that the reason for the stabbing is unknown and that the boy lived at the resort. I can't condone the action but the mental health of the child does comes into question.

Some general thoughts...

Living in a nudist resort is out of the cultural norm for children in general. Unless they are home-schooled, they have to integrate into the standards for public or private school, relationships with other kids and adults. Age 14... middle school... is a very impressional age under any circumstances with hormones raging and can be difficult for any young teenager. So, to wonder if this particular 14 yr old has the maturity to try to deal potential bullying, name calling or possibly even rejection due to the circumstances in which they live. Further pent up frustration may be a result of trying to hide their nudist culture from the other kids. I am sure some kids manage fine, but it is logical that some may not and as a result, inappropriate behaviors may result.

Sunsport Gardens in Florida was the site of a stabbing Sunday.
A 14-year old Florida boy faces charges in connection to a stabbing at a Loxahatchee, Florida nudist colony. Police said the teen, who has not been named because he is a juvenile, assaulted a young woman at the camp on Sunday morning, CBS12 said. The 18-year-old victim said she had never met the boy before the attack.
The woman had stopped at the resort while traveling from Georgia to the Florida Keys and was walking on a nature trail when the assault occurred, police said. She was taken to the hospital but has since been released.
The suspect lives at the nudist camp with his family, according to police. He is currently in the custody of his parents and the judge ordered a mental evaluation on the suspect. The boy faces a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
The stabbing happened at Sunsport Gardens Naturist Resort, which bills itself as a "family naturist resort." The resort offers camping and an RV park, as well as the Naturally Nude Café.

The authorities have arrested a thirteen-year-old boy for the stabbing. According to Yahoo News, the boy was a resident of Sunsport.

I think Sunsport is the last southern east coast Florida resort on the horizon. Unfortunately, a lot of the press they've received in the last three years has not been favorable, in spite of a lot of progressive things done there.

So sad. I have been there and this a really beautiful place. The trails are compact, but remote so they maximize use of the property. Here's to a speedy recovery for her....and may the ticks of a thousand camels infest the attackers boxer briefs!

The resort's general manager, Morley Schloss, tells The Associated Press that the 18-year-old woman had been walking on a nature trail when she was stabbed multiple times by an unknown person.
