  • Jesse Williams Broadway Play Nude Scene Video

In the Broadway play Take Me Out, the actor Jesse Williams has a full-frontal nude scene. The theater requires the audience to place their cell phones and cameras in sealed cases during the performances, but this has not stopped an audience member from recording a video and uploading it to the Internet. The theater issued a statement that this was a "gross and unacceptable violation of trust between the actor and audience".

My cynicism leads me to think that this is all a publicity stunt. It doesn't make sense that an actor would be willing to appear frontally nude live on stage in front of hundreds of people night after night, but would be offended by being seen nude in photos or videos on the Internet. My skepticism is further fueled by the theater's statement regarding "trust between the actor and audience". There is no trust between the actor and audience. Audiences can be rowdy, and they will boo and jeer at a poor performance.

I don't think they have the right to request a take down of the image.
