ClothesFree.com - New show! Lake Como Nudist Resort votes to require nudity instead of clothing optional. DISROBED, the Naturist comedy hit, is back for the 2023. World Naked Bike Ride in more cities. Why should you be part of World Naked Hiking Day on June 21? Psychologist says naturists have more satisfying lives. Enjoy!

This month, May 2023. We are at the Bay to Breakers today, May 21, 2023 in San Francisco, also known as the Bare to Breakers! We are staying at Lupin Lodge at the moment taping a show. We will also document events at these locations. Phil and his camera crew left the Magic Circle in Arizona, the largest public land nudist camp in the United States, to explore other potential clothes-free locations. For more information, go to magiccirclearizona.com.

Members who signed up or renewed before May 22, 2022 may be expiring today.

I give Lake Como Family Nudist Resort credit for using the word "Nudist" in their name rather than the more trendy but often misunderstood word "Naturist". The following is the nudity policy stated on their Policies and FAQs page.

    - We are a nudist resort & community. Nudity is accepted and expected throughout Lake Como grounds, weather permitting.
    - Nudity is required at pool and pool deck, in hot tub and in sauna.

I don't want to speculate (too much) around the reasons behind the change; but I would venture to guess it was because "textilization" of the areas outside the pool was getting out of hand.

On the one hand I can understand this would come as a "blow" to nudists with "accompanying but non-participating" S/O's or family members. My wife was a "newbie" once; and an "all nude" environment might have been overwhelming on her first time.

But...once my wife got past "newbie stage", we came across a "nudity-mandatory" resort during our travels; and my wife found she was more comfortable staying naked there - because everyone else also was. If she wants to go hiking or paddle-boarding on the lake, she doesn't feel self-conscious about doing these activities naked because she knows she's not going to "stand out." At the C/O resorts we visited; most other women wore a sarong outside the pool area. She now has no interest in going anywhere C/O and hasn't worn a sarong in years.

So I can understand both sides of the issue. I also totally support a resort choosing to be "nude-mandatory." Some of us do prefer a completely "clothesfree" nudist experience. For others, there are still other C/O resorts.

The Lake Como website evidently has not yet been updated. I saw the following text posted on another website.

        Dear Residents and Resort Members:

At its regular meeting last Wednesday evening, The Lake Como Co-op Board of Directors passed the following motion: "The Board authorizes management to post all buildings, amenities, and events as nudity required. Conditions/weather permitting."

It is the intent of the Board to make Lake Como a nudist resort and community in fact, and not just in name. Lake Como is a place for nudists, not a place for people who want to look at nudists. Over the next month, the signage will be put in place and the Board will discuss how to implement this change. A motion will be brought forward at the Board's May 24th meeting to set the terms for enforcement of our nudity policy. All residents and members who wish to have input should attend and make their wishes known. If you wish to put your concerns in writing, please address them to our General Manager

Many of our residents and resort members are greatly concerned about the number of people at Lake Como that do not practice social nudism. Our residents and members are at Lake Como to live and practice the nudist lifestyle and want to be with other people who practice nudism. The Board intends to make that happen!

        Art Green, President LCCI

Curious to know how the Florida Young Naturists gatherings will go in the future. A lot of first-timers attend those events.

Worth noting (different topic) = Penn Sylvan is holding several events - a volleyball tournament, and the "Moon Groove" festival, in an attempt to reach out to younger people.

They are going to meet again on the 24th (today) to determine how management will implement it. But I would venture a guess that the policy will be enforced as soon as practically possible.

You have to consider - nudists do not like being objects of display, or "zoo animals" or objects of study. I understand the reasons for clothing-optional versus nude-mandatory. Yes, there are times you have to wear clothing, especially if it gets cold. On the other hand, if the group - and Lake Como is a cooperatively held club - wants nude-mandatory, that's the law of the land and that's it.

Sounds like very good news. Maybe some of the other resorts will take notice and do similar things.
