I saw this quote in my local paper and I thought that I should share it.

    Quote:
"Nudity is not a big thing with Europeans, but it terrifies Americans"
-French actress, Eva Green, the new Bond Girl, who will play Vesper Lynd in "Casino Royale."

    Are your terrified?

American nudists may not be terrified about nudity but let me tell ya, from this angle Americans in general appear extremely uptight about it.

Just an observation from another world

I agree on the uptight bit. Then you have the trouble makers that go out of their way to cause trouble at nudist areas. We have that a lot in Texas at some of the unofficial beaches.

I think that we should not generalised too much. I mean, I was writing about that in the forum of Le Monde, a woman from Norway told me that she had to put her bathing suit to take a shower at a gym in France. That does not mean that all the gyms in France are like that, nor that it is the same thing for men, but sometimes, things are more complex than they appear.

It is true that naturism is more popular in Europe than in the US, but that does not mean that you can tan nude at public parks in Paris.

I have the dvd Vivre Nu from France, and the naturists were telling that there was still a lot of prejudice against naturists in France, so a lot of them do not tell their co-workers or even sometimes their parents that they are naturists. But it is true that France has probably more naturists than the US, even in absolute numbers.

And the attitudes in Europe change a lot from a country to the other. For example, I do not think that the Irish, the Polish or Italians form the South of Italy ar much more comfortable with nudity than Americans are. And in the US, I suppose that there are differences between liberal cities like Boston, New York, San Francisco and states like Utah and Oklahoma.

That is the Joy of Stereotypes. I have traveled in France and Germany for business and as an American get put into a catagory with the rest. People are sometime suprised that I am an American becuase I do not fit the perceptions of americans.

It is the same with French Canadians in Florida, some are rude and so they are all expected to be that way. I think nudity is much nicer than red speedos.

            Cheers,
