That thread tended to get off topic so I thought it should be made a poll.

I extracted a bunch of religions from some Census page on the internet, plus added some of my own [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif[/img] Hopefully one of the answers will suit most people.

I'm not sure what you mean by "faith like a twig", sounds to me like "faith,but very little" so I chose N/A.

Very interesting that all 4 of us (so far) chose "Christ-based" selections yet 3 out of 4 are not sure of the "truth" of their selection...Oh ye of little faith!! Now that we have more votes, we have 60% saying "I could not be more sure of my religion's truth." I find this very interesting at a time when religion seems to be waning in the world. Are nudists more religious folk than the average textile? OR, is it that only religious folk come to the "Nudity & Religion" forum?

The only times I seem to go to a church is for weddings and funerals. Having said that, I do remember and still use the lessons from confermation classes all those years ago.

Qwertie, why do you feel that religion is waning? I see religion as really staying on a semi-steady track.

You can't judge the strength of one's faith by how often they go to church (my term, in this case, for any house of worship). It has been a long time since I have stepped foot in a church and I am very adamant about what I believe.

Since the advent of the printing press and mass literacy, churches had to drastically alter their way of getting people to come to a group worship. Suggesting that it was their religious duty was one way and that has remained with us to this day.

To me, one's own personal relationship with G*d is more important than what the dogma of a specific religion is. (Of course athiests should not concern themselves with the above statement since it was aimed at those who believe in religions that have group meetings).

Teasing aside, very well-said. One's spiritual path is, and should be, highly individual. Sometimes that includes group activities, but sometimes it doesn't.

Which raises the question: What IS the measure of strength of one's faith? Is there a measure at all? Does it matter?

I was programmed with a very heavy conscience by the catholic church, but i witnessed so much hypocrisy within it and its members that I have turned away from it. Now, I don't have a religion, but I do have a spiritualism. My new spiritualism is something closer to the native americans, because I honestly believe that they had it right and most of the catholics, the 'european invaders', have it all wrong. We should not be kissing the feet of a man who died on a cross, we should be giving regular seasonal respect to nature, to mother earth, and all that it gives us. Did you know that the cherokees spent most of the year, from spring to autumn, building a house, and they did it all together, as a community, and when the autumn came, and it was complete, they celebrated
with a big feast during the autumn solstice and the harvest, for days, giving spiritual thanks in a way that europeans never seem to have the time for?
