I'm seeking to travel New Zealand also, in the next couple of years.. It would be interesting in how the laws in general would except Nudist/Naturist.
Also, would be nice to know about the cost of living there would be. and Owning propert of few acres of land in the backcountry rural setting.

      Please, Keep us in tune..

In NZ nudity is not illegal, provided it takes place in settings where it can be expected or where it is out in natural settings.

In Christchurch, where I live, a man got arrested for being naked and obnoxious at the same time.
Our group, Free beach Canterbury, organises beach visits in summer whic have been entirely free of police attention.
As for property, lifestyle blocks are always on the market here, as people tire of semi rural life. Do a Google search, one real estate firm is Harcourts. Or Ray White

I know nude hiking takes place, but who?
This site offers plenty links; have a go

          Hi you guys,

I don't have personal experience of these places yet:

          http://www.katikati-naturist-park.co.nz/index.htm

          http://www.naturist.co.nz/aorakinaturally.htm

          http://www.naturist.co.nz/homestays.htm

B&B (don't know if you use the term in the US) is a bed and breakfast - a kind of accommodation.

In terms of hiking nude, I haven't done it except to be nude at particular, safe places. Out of peak seasons (the Christmas holidays), it should be safer, but is probably like most other countries, carrying the risk of a non-nudist being 'offended'.

For Lord of the Rings, there is actually a tourist guidebook that is available, and many of the places still retain the film set-up, such as Hobbiton (in Meremere). Although I have not gone specifically to any of the LOTR sites, I can recommend particular places to go to depending on what you are looking for: multi-day hiking, camping, mountain climbing, adventure sports, fishing, wine touring, whale-watching, Maori culture villages etc.

          Campervans are widely available.

In terms of costs, things will generally be slightly cheaper here, but not by a big amount. It has become more expensive here for Americans because our exchange rate has increased a lot in the last few years, while the greenback has weakened. 0.69 US = 1 NZ

          Comparisons:

A litre of unleaded oil = US$1 (you'll have to calculate to gallons)
          A recent CD = US$20
          A big mac = US$2.5

As for buying a couple of acres, I can't say that off the top of my head but if you seatch on the net, it should be there somewhere.

And anything else you can just ask...

Another site that may helphttp://www.gonatural.co.nz/ has a few links to nudist clubs, homestays etc.
Many "official" nude beaches around the country but any isolated beaches are o.k for nude bathing also, just use your commonsense.
The best way to find out for yourself though is to come on down.I am sure you will like it.Just be aware that the weather can be very changeable.Four seasons in one day as they say.

Great.Come on down then.New zealanders aren't all as obnoxious, arrogant and boring as I am
A good base for you in Auckland may be the Auckland Outdoor Naturist Club. You can find all their contact details using their link on the gonatural website.Heaps of room for campervans, and they also have a spa, sauna, pool, kitchen, garden bar, that you can use.Heck you might even see me there
Not sure of the charge but it is not too far from Auckland airport (35-40mins)and could be a good starting point while you plan your itinerary.
