I am a nudist. I enjoy nudism/naturism. I do not go about naked to cause others to oggle me but if they do see me I do not panic. Depending on where I am, I casually cover up to not offend and in the wilderness...the possibility of shocking someone is most unlikely. Experiencing Alaska is an awesome opportunity...for textiles and naturists. I love to hike and sunbathe nude here in Alaska during the summer months and enjoy the freedoms afforded me. Our population is quite small and the liklihood of running into others is minimal. Come experience the Last Frontier...you will be glad you did.

I voted "Nudist", since after examnining my nude behaviour, I noted that I do prefer the simple condition of being nude. Much like Snoboy, going about while nude is preferred. However, in doing so, there is the possibility of being seen by others (slight, I'd say), and I have been occasionally seen nude in otherwise public places. My usual action is to cover up if necessary to reduce offending. Therein lies the difference between nudism and exhibitionism. Nudists seem to know the difference: go nude when possible, but cover up to reduce the risk of offending others. Exhibitionists, on the other hand, stay covered until a "target" is obtained, then uncover to get exposure, and cause a notable reaction.

Nude_in_Tn: I agree with DNat's definition of exhibitionist. Therefore, I think that your definition of exhibitionist as one who likes to be seen nude by others is too broad.

Based on two surveys of nudists that I've done on this site, it is clear that there is a sexual element (usually secondary) associated with most (i.e. 2/3 of) people's practice of nudism.
What might the sexual turnon be? It could be seeing other people nude; it could be inclusion as part of a group of naked people; it could be being seen nude by others; it could be other things.
I don't mind what turns nudists on, as long as it is not overtly sexual, or threatening, or imposing unwanted attention on another person.
In my opinion, the term exhibitionist should be used only in a narrow sense, as in DNat's definition.

Its difficult to answer this question though I did in the "nudist" category.
I like to be nude but I like to do it in a social context, with other nude people (which is why it somewhat fits in the exhibitionist definition of this question). Being nude in an otherwise non-nudist environment carries a level of anxiety that I don't need . I like to be relaxed when I'm nude so going to a nude resort or beach is my ideal . Being seen by others with the same intent that I have (of being nude) is not exhibitionism in my book, sure it has sexual overtones but then the same is true in textiled situations .
