  • Walking clothed on the beach?

Are people offended or get the wrong impression if a person walks up and down a nude beach once or twice while clothed? The reason I ask is because I've started going to a near by nude beach and while I enjoy laying out nude, I also enjoy walks along the beach, but am still not really comfortable with walking around naked. Combine this with me being a single guy there alone and I'm worried I'm giving off the impression that I'm just there to look at people. Would most nudists get the wrong impression or be offended by this?

The short answer is "yes, nude people on nude beaches don't like seeing clothed people trolling up and down the beach." But as with many things, there are always gray areas. My advice is chuck the trunks and relax. Naked strolls will start to come more naturally once you get used to it. Good luck.

One of the reasons my wife and I prefer Playalinda beach to Apollo is the clothed gawkers. The nude part of Apollo is real close to the clothed beach. It seems that there is always someone walking by that is not nude.
Playalinda (not a legal nude beach but seems to be accepted)nude beach does not seem to have this problem.

I don't count all the clothed people as gawkers. I honestly believe some of them are secretly envious of our body freedom and a few of them might join us in the nude one of these days.

Perhaps you would prefer a 'clothing optional' beach to a nude beach, where there were a few more clothed people.

I am often surprised when someone comes to a nude beach, particularly one that is more difficult to get to, yet stays clothed. I am a bit more understanding of a group of people where some are naked and some are clothed, but where the whole group remains clothed, or there is just one person who is clothed, I sometimes wonder "Why did this person bother?".

I do realise that not all clothed people are gawkers but you do get a substantial number of obvious gawkers.

Perhaps one way to compromise is this: arrive at the beach and walk along it clothed to a far corner where you stop and get naked, lie around for a while, and do the walk back clothed when you leave. You still get to do a couple of walks but are less likely to have people thinking you're there for the wrong reasons.

Coming from one of those females, one could easily encounter on the beach...strolling down it with textiles definitely sends a message...and one I am sure if you were to reverse the gender roles, would make you think long and hard about doing just that...

As a female, who definitely enjoys the beach, guys who stroll up and down the beach in textiles sends out several messages. First, is I am looking but not willing to participate unless...(fill-in the blank). Second, it says one of the above you mention, "I am not really comfortable with my body". And finally, it sends out other messages one can only imagine from the perspective of the gay population...and many of those, enjoy the beach for what it is able to provide for them sexually.

frink: Taking a stroll on a nude beach and staying clothed could send the message that you are there to gawk at the nudists. I know that you are not doing this, but the other nudists don't. Next time you are at the nude beach, try taking a stroll while naked. Once you've tried it, you'll keep doing it more and more. When I go to Pirate's Cove, I'll walk up and down the beach several times. It just feels relaxing. At first, years ago, I was reluctant in getting nude at the beach, but that quickly dissolved. Now when I get on the beach, the clothes come off the very first thing before I find a place to park myself.

Perhaps it is me but I am not too fussed about this. I can tell the difference (at least I think I can) when someone is a gawker and someone isn't. For example, at Playalinda, I have seen those who come to the beach, sun nude and then decide to go for a walk and slip on a thong, speedo or swimsuit for a walk. This does not bother me because there behaviour fits one of someone at the beach for enjoyment, rather than for gawking. Yes, maybe at co beach this is easier to accept than at nude beach - but I say do what you want to be comfortable and good luck getting to the point that you can walk nude on beach.

Nobody can tell why someone is walking by with clothes on. They may be waiting till they get to their final spot before disrobing.

They may be brand new and not sure if they can actually go through with it or not.

They might be curious about us and decided to check it out. Even though they might not get nude on this trip it may make them decide to come back and give it a try.

They may be comfortable sitting still nude but not sure about walking away from their clothes, either because of not being real comfortable yet or because they may be afraid of getting arrested.

There is a lot of misinformation out there about Playalinda in particular and many people think it's closed down, or at the least that there are still arrests going on there which isn't true.

They may even be a gawker. So what? They are getting an education just by walking down the beach, which is great! Even some gawkers eventually succome and become nudists.

I learned not to judge them. It isn't up to us to decide if they are there for reasons you agree with or don't agree with. Most of them really just have a lot of questions they'd like answers to. Sometimes when I see someone sitting clothed I go strike up a conversation and find out their story. I've talked a few into getting nude.

For the 1000th time (I've kept count), I agree completely with you, Cyndiann.

Why worry about gawkers at all, unless and until they intrude on your personal space? The person might be a wannabe but still a scared2be. Or might have never seen naked people before and is fascinated. As nudists, we should be comfortable with non-nudists seeing our bodies.

Clothed people passing through an area where I am nude don't bother me, but large numbers of them make my wife uncomfortable. Therefore it potentially becomes an issue. As a result I can easily understand why someone would want to check out the "gawker factor" before deciding where to go.

There are some places where this becomes a definite problem. During high tourist season Orient Beach can get large numbers of tourists off ships who come to see the naked people, and this certainly can disrupt the tranquility for which lots of us go to nude places.

I agree with 99% of what Cindy said on this topic, but I have experienced a couple of times where it was totally clear that the motive was solely to gawk. Twice at a resort we were in the nude (not c/o) area when a group of clothed men walked in and roosted at the nude pool bar. Once some of the male guests ran them off, and the other time security responded to the situation. Both times they were given the option of taking off their clothes, and all of them refused.

FRINK - To help you with your comfort zone, try walking up and down the beach dressed ONLY in a "T" shirt. The cool air around the lower part of your body is wonderful and the cover achIeved by a longist "T" shirt solves the problem that you are not "comfortable" walking totally naked. Nudists do this all the time in cooler weather - nobody is upset or cares.

I would expect that after a while of doing this the "T" shirt will go.

Sometimes you can tell which ones are gawkers and which are just testing the waters...I rarely go to haulover because it seems to have A LOT of gawkers...Plus I am very uncomfrtable being around clothed people, it makes me nervous when I am newd...i guess I am still a newbie at it...

I am not saying all the clothed ones are gawkers, but you can just tell, especially when the same person is there with t-shirt and jeans and it's 90 degrees out...(I myself slowly worked my way into, still have some kinks to work out, but I at least took my shirt off)

And there are other ways of telling as well...Gawkers usually don't look as nervous as the testers...

Anyway, does anyone know of any groups or resorts that are Near North Miami/Ft Lauderdale?

I have a question...Because I have gone alone to Haulover a lot, I tend to look back and forth to see if anyone looks friendly enough to talk to so that I can make friends...However, I have recently been paranoid that people may be thinking that I am just a nude gawker...Can anyone give me some advice on that? Especially how to approach someone without them thinking I am gay (if they are a guy), or trying to pick the em (if they are a girl)?

                            Thanks

Gawkers that don't act like gawkers, I don't mind. Like people that might come to the beach with suits and look around a bit. But when you see groups of guys just walking around joking and all smiles, you can pretty much tell what's going on, and it's annoying mostly because I am obviously then in the presence of immature morons. Also, yeah if I see the same guy walking around with all his clothes on, it's kind of creepy.
