Kayaker,
I've actually been wanting to get into kayakking. Not just free kayakking, but any kind.
Anyway, I live in Lakeland, and I have always wondered about Mosquito Lagoon from the moment I heard it existed.
Are the islands remote enough to be able to be clothes-free at the primitive campsites?

I go to the Wekiva River in Seminole county just north of Orlando, also the St johbn's River, and Econlockhatchee river, East of Orlando. I have a sit in, rather than a sit on kayak so I can go just about anywhere. If any boats come close I just drape a towel over myself.

Kayaker,
Is it fair to say that sit-on-top is a newer breed of kayak? I would assume that sit-in kayaks are better for bareyaking?
I would be very interested in learning to kayak, but I don't know what kind to buy. Any advice?

I would have to say the sit on top(SOT)is the best way to go, for any recreational Kayaker. I personnaly enjoy the openess, for suntanning and airflow across the body, as opposed to sitting down in the kayak. But a sit in kayak(SIK) would afford you more privacy, if needed for rowing in more public places, but for me, its easy enough to just throw a towel over my nude lap or slip back into my speedo if needed. Also the SOT is very easy to get on or off of, at shore or out in the water, if you decide to take a dip or if you should take a spill, out in the ocean waves. Plus with the SOT, you don't have to worry with water getting in your boat or having to wear a tight fitting sprayskirt to keep it out.In the cooler months, I have plugs to go in the scupper holes in the bottom of my SOT to keep the water out on calm lake or creek rowwing.I love my boat. Nude or not. Another point about a Kayak is you sit down close to the water, and its really hard to tell you're nude from any real distance. Have fun.

I own a boat currently moored in Cocoa Beach, but I used to sail along the Harris Chain of Lakes, up toward Mt. Dora and out to the St. John's river, but I have to be a little more careful than you. I need two towels, not just one!

I have a sit in kayak. I would prefer a sit on for recreational kayaking but I do a lot of camping trips in mine so my needs are a little different. If you just want to go paddle around for the day a sit on top is practical and less expensive

Very cool, it's on my list of things to acquire.
Barabara, is the Harris Chain of Lakes the same as the Winter Haven Chain of Lakes in Polk County?
Furthermore Theo, if anyone wants to organize a trip, I'd be up for it! Go for it Kayaker, Theo, Barbara.

I've been following this thread from afar (Atlanta). Kayaking is also something I would like to learn (ANYTHING in the water I love), and would be interested in a trip too. I'm in Orlando mid/end of September for business, and may be living in Tampa for the winter, so please keep me in the loop.
