O.K. I'll start: You should try naked hiking. I'm
always amazed how many naturists I meet who've
never done it. I know we've had threads here from
naked hikers..but at least among the free spirits
I come across, it seems to be a new concept.

when you go hiking, generlly how far do you go?
is it a private activity for you or do you go with other people? I've gone for walks along a piece of coastline in the southwest uk, 7 miles of collapsed coastline and very secluded, but I'm sure it's a much more enjoyable thing to do with friends.

They have a number of walks planned for this year mostly in the south east so they may be a little too far for you to travel.

Rather than nude hiking, I've often hiked to a destination and then spent some time there naked. I've been to a couple of hot springs in New Mexico which are apparently traditionally clothing optional. Here in Australia around Sydney there are plenty of secluded beaches and streams you can walk to without much chance of finding someone at your destination and offending them.

i'm jealous, i want to hike to a hot spring. but don't you overheat from hiking in the heat and than going in hot water??

oh, also, here's something you should try - taking a shower (in the nude, of course) outside. i have set up an outside shower and have used it consistantly every night for about a month so far. i always shower at night anyways, so i have lots of privacy. now i do not need to clean the shower in the house anymore!!!

Where do you live? In most parts of the country there are plenty of places to hike nude. I live in the Los Angels area and hike in the Los Angeles forest. I carry a pair of shorts that I can slip into if I come upon others. Sometimes I get covered in time, sometime there is no time to cover. I have had only one person of those I have encoutered get upset that I am hiking nude. Most people are amused. Find a forest area with trails, Wear your shorts when you leave the trailhead, strip down when you can see nobody around and enjoy.

My thoughts about free hiking.....

I freehiked today - on a trail that was even published in a hiking book (of course it was still selected carefully). I freehiked yesterday. I freehiked every day this week, and every day last week, and the week before that. I haven't had a clothed encounter in several weeks - of those I have had, few have seemed all that upset. I love to hike, but can't stand doing it with clothes on any longer. Sometimes I hike alone - lately, I usually hike with others.

My advice, just do it! Be careful, be aware, select your location carefully (with seclusion in mind). If you have an encounter, be courteous, and act casual, not shocked or threatened, and certainly not threatening. If all were right in the world, few would hike with clothes on (in warm weather, at least). It's silly.
