Going online tonight AOL had this in their news-- Teen nudist camps--Would you send your kid? there was a 3 question survey to take,Should there be nudist camps for teens,would you have gone to a nudist camp as a teen and would you go to a nudist camp as an adult.The majority voted no to all 3 questions. what really bothered me was the posts send in there are so many closed minded people out there. One woman wrote to say she sent her 2 daughters aged 13&14 to one of these camps only because they asked to go, the parents even checked it out before sending them. so many people wrote saying she was sick for sending them.Some wrote to say all the kids are going to do is have sex. Where are some of these people's minds.Enough said. rufus

You have to understand that these people do not have a ground understanding of nudism. They speculate as to what they think it's all about. I read the NY Times article and frankly I thought it was crap. It did no justice to nudism nor did it educate readers about nudism. That being said, the negative comments that were posted are a product of lack of understanding and exposure of nudism. Many people think it is all about sex but none take the time out to do the research and see what it's really about

The parents concerns for nudist camps should not be any different than if they sent their teens to clothed camps. Popular culture i.e. movies like Meatballs or anyone's practical experience would indicate that teens are under tremendous pressure concerning their sexuality in general.
A nudist camp should eliminate most of the pressure and natural curiousity that the clothed world can not resolve.

The above link is the applicable US Representative raising a controversy over the whole thing. Some people just will not think outside the box when it comes to certain things. I hope nudist organizations make a good response to this closemindedness.

This is not just a problem for Florida. It is everyone's concern. (that means you!)
Teens from other states attend this camp in Florida. Will legislators in Texas and Arizona be inspired to ban nudist youth camps?
The future of nudism rests in part on being able to instill our values on our children. That is also our freedom as Americans.
I suggest writing a politely worded letter to Rep. Mark Foley, Jeb Bush, Attorney General Charlie Crist, and maybe Bob Graham, Foley's opponent in the senatorial race.
And maybe similar proactive letters to representatives in Texas and Arizona, letting them know that the AANR camps are there to help the teens develop positive values. Choose your own words, just find some way to let them know that nudists have been misrepresented.Comment

All the closed minded people will be happy to hear that the nude summer camp at Lake Cumo was closed down. The sad thing is they have had summer camp for years,now all of a sudden it has to stop.Why,because some people are afraid the kids hormones are going to get out of control.There is adult supervision and most adults are not into kids having sex,especially if you are a parent.Even if the councelors are barely out of their teens themselves,there are background checks done on them.They make sure none of this is going on.Can't mention names but someone from our goverment said you are playing with fire by sending your kids to a nude summer camp.Enough said.Comment

You have the basis for a good story there. Needs some work, but all good stories are written and rewritten several times. Don't get discouraged by that aspect of it. A whole collection of such stories published and widely distributed, especially were they available in mainstream outlets (Amazon, B&N, BAMM, etc.), could do a world of good. I'm working on a set myself, though that work has stalled.
