I was thinking, how much advertising for naturist groups was done in universities? I would have thought there would be alot of interest from that age group, especially if fliers are used - noone would notice u picking up anything when ur in the union bar! could this idea go anywhere?

From what i've seen at most universites, there are no advertising for nudist activities or places. Though i agree, if more advertising was done at such places that i believe i higher concentration of younger nudists would come out to at least give it a try.

D'oh! I haven't seen that one tried either. A flyer campaign might be useful. I think most groups try to advertise through the college newspaper. While probably less expensive, it would seem less visible. I also think it would work better at a four-year school, where I haven't been in years, than a 2-year community college, where I now work. Not just because of the age factor, but also more and better opportunities to leave something lying around.

Don't want to stir up any trouble here, but most probably the reason behind the less obvious ways of advertising is so as not encourage people into "nudism" or naturism" for the wrong motives.

Those who are genuinely interested in becoming a member, or those who are already in the lifestyle, will easily find what they are looking for without the need for "in your face" advertising.

Hot blooded students are sometimes rather radical, as it is there first taste of being totally free away from home.

I totally agree however that more recruits is always good.
I went to university in England, and don't know of any groups where I was. We also didn't have any nude events such as running, unlike the ones I understand are held as tradition in the states.
I believe however that Oxford or Cambridge, or both, have/had a nude event at a place called "Parsons Pleasure" which was only for males. Maybe someone in the UK can confirm?

There wasn't any advertising for such things at my university in Sydney. A bit of a shame because we have good weather!

A university nudist club would probably be a great idea to provide support for 'undecided' young people. I don't know of any unis that have one though.

            Hi Dom.

Funny you should post the question about universities as one of the main things YBN will be hoping to do in the Autumn is placing leaflets/flyers in the Student Union halls of residence in September (in time for the new term). The Nus have agreed and CCBN just have to say yes and we will be going ahead - not sure of the response bu, nothing ventured and all that !

This will no doubt generate interest in the University magazines/papers and so we will reach a very wide audience. It would be great to think that if enough people joined from one Uni they would set up a naturist group there...we will have to wait and see.

              Ben,
that sounds great, maybe in 2 years the UK will have university reps for YBN, you never know! I think there was some sort of online forum for American universities that have naturist clubs, although I'm not sure if its still going. Is there anything that anyone could do to help you with the advertising or anything?

From what Ben has said to me, there are two barriers to young naturism, the first is obvious, that is, the perceptions of textiles, particularly those in the peer groups of those wanting to try naturism. This will take time to change and although there is some more acceptance, there is still a long way to go.

The second reason is a little more difficult to address, that is the attitudes of some of the older people within naturism, who do not understand young people and seem unable to understand the needs of todays young naturists. When the high-ups in the naturist movement were young the world was a much different place, and it can be difficult for some to equate their experiences with the very different viewpoint of todays youth.

One way to get both of these issues sorted is to support Ben and the others at YBN (or similar organisations where you live) as this will show just how possitive the young people can be. Dont forget that many colleges in the UK have people who never go to University so dont miss them out when you put your flyers out.

                keep nude,

                B

                  Cheers Bryony.

You are exactly right that the best way up to now of supporting what we are doing is to get along to any YBN event or any event where YBN memebrs will be. Dom, if you want I can send you some flyers to take and hand out to people who you think may be relevant for the group.

In doing this it shows the "high-ups" in CCBN that Youth naturism is on the up and that young people are interested in naturism and want to get involved. Any volunteers to help with the "spreading" of this idea are always welcome be it through handing out flyers at events to telling friends and encouraging them to come along.

But more importantly, attend the events yourselves and bring your enthusiasm. The more imput we get the better.

                  See you all later.

Canada's best known clothing-optional beach is Wreck Beach, which is on the campus of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. On a warm and sunny summer day, several thousand people visit Wreck Beach, and most of them go nude. Probably half are students at UBC and other local schools. It's part of campus life.

I put out an occassional poster taken from the web on SU noticeboard here at La Trobe Uni, in Bendigo, Victoria.

It's theme is "Life's too short - Play Naked" and has tear-off strips for a web-group at
                          http://higbee.cots.net/YoungAdultNaturists/

Student magazine last year ran stories about "Nudists" and posing nude for the Spencer Tunick photo shoot in Melbourne in Oct 2001 (over 4,000 people.

Don't know if it's having any impact, but keep trying to get the message out there!

UK, Canada, and Australia...But in America there is very very little vocal interest. So sad!

From time to time a bright motivated young naturist starts a naturist club forms at a U.S. university. It usually does quite well, but the founder graduates and the club fades away.

I have recently heard from a student in Kentucky who was active in a naturist club. He hopes that the club will survive beyond his graduation, but he is not sure if it will happen.

A large university should have enough potential members to allow a student naturist club to form.

The university in Ann Arbor Michigan used to have a well-attended nude run every winter. In San Francisco, there is a large nude group of (legally allowed) joggers in the "Bay to Breakers" race. Surely some of the students in these areas are already over much of their body shyness and might consider a club which offers nude socials and outdoor activities.
