I'm thinking that the nudist on this show is a NATURAL GUY in the way that he does everything natural. Dresses, eats, etc. I'm convinced that the sci-fi channel MIS-defined the term naturist for natural and it may not be what WE define as naturist.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I've always thought that a "typical naturist" as they said they wanted for the part is someone who would rather be nude than dressed as long as the weather and other conditions permit it. I would NEVER wear clothes if I didn't have to. I'm not able to see the show since I only have local channels now, but is there anything preventing him from being nude if he wanted? Just from what I've read here, this man is not my idea of a naturist, let alone a typical one. Of course, maybe I'm judging what a naturist is by myself, who would rather be nude than dressed.

I hate to say it, but our movement is failing in a spectacular way. Maybe we need to get back to going on ricki lake/phil donahue type shows. maybe our resorts need to post ads in newspapers. has anyone here ever seen an actual nudist resort ad in an actual newspaper?

        [/qb]
Yes, I'm in the Tampa area and the resorts around here put ads in the local papers, use billboards and have commercials on cable.

Please don't put rikki lake in the same category as Phil Donahue. They are barely in the same category. The old Donaue shows tended to treat subject matter such as this with respect while rikki's show would not treat any topic respectfully.

I remember seeing Donahue Shows on nudism. They had real nudists on the show, who took questions from the skeptical audience and callers, and did a great job of explaining what nudism was and was not. Phil always kept the proceedings respectful and informative. How old fashioned of him!

I dont think that a guy who is clothed 80% of the time is a naturist. I posted a few things on the scifi bboards on their website on the mad mad house page and they just flamed me and acted like I was insulting the guy and they said he was an "expert" on naturism and food. I just dont see how a guy who stays clothed 80% of the time is a naturist.

It figures, Mike. You hacked your way into the temple of Avocado and all his worshippers dissed you!

I checked it out and only saw one disagreement from a Avocado worshiper.

From another poster I learned that the 'naturist friends' of Avocado who participated in the 'trial' were supplied by an Adult Video Management company. I.E. they were porn actors. Apparently David Wolfe (Avocado) and the shows producers don't know the first thing about naturism.

I just wanted my opinion to be heard. I just wanted these idiots over at scifi to know that not everyone buys into their cheap bull****. I just think that they should either get the whole nudism thing straight or just go back to showing all their cheap B-rated scifi flicks and just stop doing the MMH show unless they can do it right with real AL characters and not some actors doing a half assed impression of AL. *AL= alternate lifestyle*

I am very disappointed in what I have seen of the "naturist" on the show, and rather insulted in the way which the Christian participants have been treated by the "Alts". If the point of this show is to show openess and acceptance of a variety of lifestyles then why doesn't that include Christians? At least on Surreal Life they respected Tammy Faye's personal convictions, but this show seems to go out of their way to get in the face of Christians, especially the participants, even to the point of a face to face confrontation between the Christian girl and the Wiccan alt. Acceptance works both ways, folks. If a Christian is willing to observe another's religious practices but not participate, then they should respect that. If the Christians held a prayer meeting 9which if I was in that house would be something I would be doing on a daily basis!) and the "alts" wanted to sit quietly and observe, they would be allowed and we would accept them not participating. We wouldn't become "possessed" and give them a guilt trip about rejecting their heritage, or get in their face about their sin...we would just pray and worship God and let the Holy Spirit do His work on their hearts.

I found your post on sci-fi's website, Mike, and the response which included a link to avacado's personal website. He's all about the raw-food thing, not a mention of naturism that I could find.

This guy doesn't know what a "naturist" is, and if indeed he went on the show and introduced his "friends", when in fact they were porn actors, he's a disgusting idiot who just wants to be on tv.

I think that the whole naturist community should really put up a stink and go after these guys for denying a REAL naturist being able to go on the show and instead replacing him with this naturist wannabe who enjoys nutritional food and has porn star buddies. I mean do any of you think this is demeaning to children? I mean they dont need to see some fake naturist that stays clothed 80% of the time, rambles about nutritional food more than naturism and has porn stars on his show because he doesnt have the balls to get real naturists on there. If he is trying to promote naturism then why doesnt he just get the contestants to go nude and enjoy the lifestyle with him?

Mike I saw posts that hinted that some of the others on that show are not legitimate either. I don't think that anyone will think that this show represents actual lifestyles anyway.

I did post on their board though. The one response to you mentioned doing research so I did go to Avocado's website and looked at his bio on the Sci-fi site and there was really very little information on him being a naturist. Matter of fact he mentioned that his roommate would be surprised to learn he was a naturist so that gives you a big clue. When someone lives with you full time and doesn't know you like nudity you have to smell something rotten.

Well, the thing is, I just think that the people out there seeing this show don't realize that naturism is used by us as a synonym for what everyone knows as nudism. Heck, I hadn't even heard the term until I started visiting this website. Therefore, I think that people are not getting odd ideas about our lifestyle, they will just think the wrong thing if you say naturism. So if you just call it nudism instead, there will probably be much more clarity.

I think that's a good point. When he says he's a naturist, it makes sense to me that he eats raw foods and enjoys being nude when possible. But nudism doesn't speak to diet, only a preference for being nude. If he's saying he's a naturist, not a nudist, I don't see how he's hurting the cause.

That exercise was interesting. In the beginning Avocado said that it will test how well people will be able to concentrate around nudity, which means they need to let themselves be comfortable with it.

I too was upset when that guy Tim mocked one of the nude players. I thought that was totally uncalled for and rude. And who is he to talk? While others are sunbathing nude he's always in sweat pants! Maybe he's afraid of someone making fun of him for the same thing? Anyway, I don't like that guy very much and I'll make a point to watch the show to root for him getting kicked off.

Maybe INA should find this david wolfe guy and ask him what kind of naturist backround does he come from i mean i have heard alot of definitions of what a "naturist" is but i have never heard one that included (forgive me if i mispelled) eating all natural foods....lol i just like to keep it simple and refer to myself as a person who prefers not to wear clothes in my free time in a nonsexual manner. that way people dont get the wrong idea of me. lol but thats just me. but i do think interviewing Mr. wolfe for nudes in the news and asking him about his views on the naturist/nudist lifestyle would make a pretty interesting episode! but its just an idea
